PMDG DC-6 : replace the GPS ?

Featured Replies

Has any of the Dc-6 drivers around here tried to replace the impractical 430 with a 530 ?

I use the PMS GTN 750. Works great and easy to use.

Would it help? I know Bob has cracked it but the gyropilot/430 combo seems to have a mind of it’s own.

I’ve tried everything; sometimes it works….most times it doesn’t. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

Tonight I’m going to load up a flight and sacrifice a chicken before I switch the gyropilot on.

I put some very detailed workarounds on the PMDG forum. I have around 100 flights now with zero problems.

Thank you for a good tip ! I have the light version integrated in the Comanche, didn't remember that it was in the toolbar too and using it !

Yes it is a pain.. After having  read posts here and there, it seems that its better not to use the gyropilot (left position) after the localizer (center position) as the localizer becomes useless when you want it back.

I have flown it for quite some times though, I will check whether its better now

Yeah, I use either the "pop up" version of the payware PMS750 and/or use the JayDee Mod that incorporates the 650 version in place of the 430.

If I had a set up that made it easier to use 430/530 (like a physical trainer etc) then I'd just keep the 430 in there.

So far no issues.

I'm using the 430 without any problem, no need to adapt unrealistic solutions like the pms thing. The real problems of the DC-6 are others, and are debated since the DC-6 entry in FS20.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

The PMS "thing" wasn't a solution, it is just a much easier GPS unit to use than the 430.

It's called a workaround, but I don't like it. The 430 is an "original" and real device and I find it easy to use. (But the crazy gyropilot is still there, thanks PMDG).

Not exactly, it's about the way how to fly the same thing and sharing the info. Generally we are talking about a thing called "realism", not just your or mine opinion in a flight simulator. But I see that our opinions are too much different because I like flying the DC-6, you a Concorde. It's very discording.

Which original DC6 was equipped with a Garmin 430?

See Youtube, some alaskan flights there. PMDG is using the 430 for a reason, I think. I don't find so many differences using a 430 or a 530 anyway.

I used to work in an avionics shop. Very easy to take out a 430 and install a GTN 750, just costs some money.
