WU that included Hawaii

Recommended Posts

So I'm preping to take the 738 from California to Hawaii (probably Maui), I have two questions.

Wasn't there a World Update that modified Hawaii (wasn't called WU Hawaii though), do you know which one it was so I can get it?

Second, does anyone have a good scenery for Maui that is compatible with the current WU version of Hawaii.

Thanks!

Northern Sky Studio has a series of Hawaiian airports available in great detail. Add to that some products by South Oak Co and another dev for Lihue, and you have most airports in Hawaii.

Overall -

Kauai:

  • Princeville - Northern Sky Studio
  • Port Allen -   South Oak Co
  • Lihue Intl - RegDesigns

Oahu:

  • Dillingham - South Oak Co
  • Honolulu Intl - iniBuilds

Molokai:

  • Molokai - Northern Sky Studio (South Oak also has version)
  • Kaluapapa - Northern Sky Studio (South Oak also has version)

Lanai:

  • Lanai - Northern Sky Studio

Maui:

  • Kapalua/West Maui - Northern Sky Studio
  • Kahului Intl - Northern Sky Studio
  • Hana - Northern Sky Studio (South Oak also has version)

Big Island / Hawaii:

  • Waimea/Kohala - Northern Sky Studio
  • Kona Intl - Oceania update from Asobo/MS
  • Hilo Intl - Pearl Simulations

Airports that we're missing payware renditions of:

  • Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands (Kauai)
  • Kalaeloa / John Rogers Field / former NAS Barbers Point (Oahu)
  • Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe (Oahu)
  • Wheeler Army Air Field (Oahu)
  • Upolu (Big Island)
  • Bradshaw Army Air Field (Big Island)
  • A few random crop-dusting fields that even the real-world owners don't want charted

Do you know if they're up-to-date in terms of layouts?

Most of these airports haven't had any major layout changes in years. Honolulu actually has had the most recent development in the real world, and inibuilds PHNL is the most recently released product, so unless you only use scenery that was released or updated within the past few months, I think any changes, should they even exist, would be extremely minor.

Nice! So you're saying the Ini PHNL is pretty close? I was thinking of buying it too.

It's the best option you're going to get by far for now, and for the foreseeable future. Even has the major Terminal 1 concourse opened in 2021.

I encourage you to try the smaller airports too in something other than a jetliner. Northern Sky Studio does remarkable work.

Note: Hilo is by a random dev and hasn't been updated, but it's nice. Just have to watch the scenery priority order so it's not ahead of Navigraph. See the reviews/comments here: https://secure.simmarket.com/pearl-simulations-2-phto-hilo-international-airport-msfs.phtml

Northern Sky has some very decent Alaska and Hawaii airports. There’s also a Hawaii mesh on SimMarket - might be redundant after the WU.

EDIT: just saw the list that was posted above.

Indeed I snagged them all this week! Milk run last few days in heavy mist/poor visibility (great fun using VOR). Sunny Aloha tonight 😄

Don't want to create new topic, but which WU has Alaska fully included?

Alaska hasn't been covered by any World Updates, if I recall correctly.

One of the special editions did add some extra handcrafted airport (like PAVD - Valdez) but I think that's it?
