March 5, 20242 yr About two weeks ago, I started experiencing CTDs when I was using MSFS 2020. Having read many threads regarding CTDs on various forums, I followed most suggestions, including deleting NVidia cache, rolling cache and shaders. These suggestions did not resolve my CTDs, and I then reinstalled MSFS 2020 and windows 11, again to no avail. The irony was that when I opened MSFS 2020, it worked absolutely fine, until the point of the CTD. All other programs were working fine, such as Lightroom, and I was convinced it was a software issue. It was two weeks later, when I then had a light bulb moment. I decided to run the built in windows memory diagnostic test, and lo and behold, it detected a hardware problem. The replacement of the faulty RAM stick has cured my CTDs. Appreciate, that for many the hardware problem will not be the issue, but just in case it helps someone, I thought I would share what proved to be the solution for me. Happy Flying P.S. I have 4 x 16GB DDR5 sticks of RAM and my PC is less than a year old !!! Edited March 5, 20242 yr by SquadronLeader George Westwell
March 5, 20242 yr I had a related hardware problem. I suffered from a various CTDs during flight loading in late 2023 early 2024. Most time (80%?) it was ok but sometimes CTD. I could not find any systematic. But then I realized that my new 4TB M.2 SSD may have some faulty sectors, because during boot, my MSFS D drive got into an automatic testing routine by Windows itself. I made a deep format on my D drive and reinstalled MSFS. Voila, since then no irregular CTD, only one or two (map zooming issue) in maybe 50+ sessions . My fingers are crossed ... March 5, 20242 yr RAM issues can creep upon you unnoticed and it is always worth testing it if you have issues. For me, a while back, my problems turned out to be a PSU going bad. it was intermittent at first until it finally started smoking and gave up the ghost. A few other things can start to play up that you may not notice until they get really bad like hard drives on their way out. I'm not sure whether this tends 5o happen with SSDs though.
