Flaps not working

Featured Replies

I have honeycomb throttle quadrant. I’m in GA aircraft. If tried default controls and FSUIPC which I prefer more. The flaps will decrease and increase but when I let go of the toggle it drops back down. Is there any way to keep them in the notch I have them set?  I’ve tried flaps cont inc etc, flaps up etc and flaps set and nothing stays. The center position is not a button so I don’t know why it’s acting this way

I recently had this problem and it turned out to be a conflict with my TrackIR software.  It was just a case of downloading the latest software profiles and unticking a box (can't remember which box offhand).

If it's not that, then I guess there may be a conflict in your keyboard/controller/FSUIPC bindings as I've had that problem a few times over the years.

I think you probably have the Action Type for 'Increase Flaps' and/or 'Decrease Flaps'  set as 'On Press' and are just holding the toggle switch down or up a little too long.  Having got caught out by this many times, I have changed my Honeycomb Bravo setting  for the Flaps Toggle to 'On Release' (see below).  This way, it doesn't matter how long I am holding the toggle down or up, it is only going to move one notch at a time.

You are probably fully familiar but if anyone else is not sure, you click on the 'Joystick Button x' highlighted above, which opens a drop box (pictured below) that gives you the option whether the action happens when you press the button or when you release the button.

The default position is 'On Press' below.  Just click the blue arrow to the right of it and it gives you the option for 'On Release'

On msfs2024 where does one find this page to select action type? IE on release.

Just got and installed 2024 yesterday and I can't get the flaps to work.

Thanks.

To open the binding assignment windows shown above, go to the sim's Control Options, search on Flaps, and click where indicated below.

I don't have Honeycomb equipment. What kind of switch is the flap switch? When you let go of what toggle what drops back down?

Two things to try:

Search the bindings for flaps and see if you have a control binding conflict somewhere.

As an experiment, assign two keys (or momentary contact buttons which essentially act like keys) to INCREASE and DECREASE flaps and see if that works correctly. If not, unplug the Honeycomb controller USB plug and see if the keys or buttons work.

Thanks guys. I should have mentioned i have a thrustmaster warthog set up. I simply cant make the flaps work. They move to the next setting and snap back when the key press is reduced. Same with assigning buttons/switches on the warthog.

I will try this activate when key released and see how things work or don't work, lol.

I have a Warthog, too 😁

You having issues with a specific addon or all in general...?

So far I haven't had any problems with flaps, other than having to change the assignment from full to incremental.

As a quick test, unplug the HomeyComb controller(s) and USB plug(s) and see if you can make the flaps work with keys or just using the mouse.  Unlike keys or pushbutton momentary contact switches that send NO signal unless pressed, the HoneyComb controllers have some switches that are always sending a signal, either on or off (e.g., a 1 or 0), because they are not momentary contact switches.  So there is a chance you have an unknown binding that is always activated which is in conflict with your flap setup. I would also unplug the Thrustmaster Warthog if it also has switches that are always either on or off.
An easy test to do so worth a shot.

Sorry, my answer above was for FS2020, but I just realized you asked about FS2024.

Below is info on assigning a key in FS2024 using the FLAPS4 binding just as a random example. On the World Map (Free Flight, etc ) page click the Gear icon in the upper right corner. That will open the first window below, select Controls. Then select your controller, here I selected the keyboard. Then in the search box type flaps to bring up the various flap bindings.  Then click where it says CLICK TO ASSIGN KEY, it will then say SCANNING and you can enter your key choice. Then click on the GEAR to the right and the next window below will open with a variety of choices such as Set control on release, shown as not selected below, and/or Input repetition, shown as selected below by the checkmark, etc. After making your choice(s) select Go Back to return to the previous screen, and then Save and Back. That's kind of the general idea of assigning a key in FS2024 as I understand it. Making a button assignment is a very similar process.
You can also find a number of videos on YouTube on setting up controllers in FS2024.

Thanks for adding this @ark

The original thread and my reply date back to when MSFS2024 was a mere glint in MS’s eye and hence no clarification that it referred to MSFS2020 - as that was the only one we had at the time!  Oh - those simple times… 😀

I did not realize this thread started over a year ago -- I need to read more carefully!  🙁

The flap problem is present on all aircraft.

Hmm...

I just use the standard flaps levers on the WH. MSFS detects them by default, but sets them to full action rather than incremental. They DO work by default, but obvs we usually need steps 😁

So I've had to delete the default bind and then rebind to the incremental.

But other than that, zero issues with flaps or any controls.

FWIW, I don't use any software proxy like TM Target or spad.next or anything, just the direct binds from MSFS.

Thanks for all the input to solving my flap inop issue. The suggestion that it was a conflict were right on. Just took me awhile to sort through them when the answer was staring me in the face.

I had a couple weeks ago replaced my controllers with a WartHog set up. I never noticed (or expected) there was a flap switch on the throttles.

It never was an issue with 2020 however it is definitely an issue (for me) on 2024.

I found the flap setting switch on the throttle assy that removes my conflict.

For those who may experience a similar conflict down the road the switch when placed in the "M/R" position removed my conflict.

Again, many thanks for all who offered suggestions.

Dave
