Can you see the difference between 30fps and 60fps?

Recall I mentioned yesterday that I still had the odd stutter here and there despite major CPUmt/GPU/VRAM headroom.  Well.....I forgot I had left DynamicLOD at 70 on the ground at KSFO.  Duh, no can handle that!  Once back to 30 or even 20 I rarely see any stutters anywhere!  Of course the taxiway lines get blurry out not far but it's just a tiny line and can deal with that over random stutters!

Just landed at FlyTampa's Schiphol in the A300 with TLOD at 50. Worked well with AIG set at 30% but then of course the huge airport was a bit empty 😅 But I've learned a bit from testing at major hubs:

  • I can maintain FPS 65
  • But I can't have a huge amount of traffic (30-50% max AIG)
  • Will then get acceptable frame time variance
  • ...but TLOD needs to be low (max 50 at the biggest hubs)

I'm sure the same applies to JFK, LAX etc. Perhaps your 7800X3RD will perform a bit better.

I have yet to try in MSFS.While the results in the other sim are promising, there's still the camera transition issue in MSFS.

I tried in DX11, 30 FPS are fine as long as I don't need to switch between cameras.

That. Won't. Happen.

Definitely I need higher frame rates, for making the camera transitions more bearable. This means DX12 and the FG mod for me. If I can get instantaneous camera switches as I had in FSX and P3D, that would be great.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

You young guns are all too spoiled 😄 watch authentic FSX videos on YouTube (but they must be authentic - "uploaded 10 years ago, 15 years ago..."), back in my days 1 - 5 FPS and Nintendo 64 environment visuals was normal in flight simulation.

But this tremendous framerate was only achievable with watercooling!
