June 4, 20242 yr Is it a good idea to change from 5800x3d to 7800x3d? In some benchmarks it indicates that there is a 30% improvement, is this true? What do you recommend? I have the 4090 RTX and in some scenarios I see that the processor in some cores reaches peaks of 100% and I start to feel stuttering in the simulator
June 4, 20242 yr I have the 5800x3d. My plan is to skip the 7800x3d and consider the 9800x3d. Or perhaps even one after that. I don't think the 5800 to the 7800 would be a sizable and worthy upgrade. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
June 4, 20242 yr Dont often post but monitor avism every day. been simming for 29 years. Went from a intel CPU to a 7800x3d and a 4080ti run on 60 mhz 3 screens 55inch samsung tvs at 3840x2160 resolution with all settings at ultra except level of detail at 300 and frame generation on dx12 dlss performance super resolution with bravo yoke and throttle and logitech rudder pedals. Have general options experimental main cockpit and left view from cockpit and right view from cockpit. Fly only general aircraft flightsim, carenado, justflight and aircraft included in msfs at 3000 to 5000 altitude most times. At large airports like klga, sanfrancisco, klax and ksea, get 32 to 49 fps and small airports like frederick md. norfolk va.and all over the east coast i get 65 to 80 fps. This is not meant to be bragging i have worked very hard to get these results in msfs but never used the amd cpus over the past 29 years but this 7800x3d in my research showed best performance in msfs and it shows in my results with proper tuning this performance is possible Dennis
June 4, 20242 yr A switch from the 5800x3d to 7800x3d would require a new motherboard as well as new ram. With the first 9000 coming out in July, one would think a few months after that we will see the 9 series x3d. That's why my advice would be to wait. https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/amd-announces-zen-5-ryzen-9000-processors-launches-in-july-four-new-ryzen-9-7-and-5-processors-with-a-16-ipc-improvement 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
June 4, 20242 yr i think folks who fly the big commercialr jets would have a hard time getting the results i have in small general aircraft. Few times i flew big jets my fps were way lower in the low 30s or high 20s but i do love that 7800x3d cpu and my motherboard is the asus 670e. I never overclock any ram or cpu i run 64gb gddr6 ram
June 4, 20242 yr The 7800X3D offers around 20% improved performance (this is in regular games, in MSFS probably less so) while costing roughly 45% more than the 5800X3D (Amazon UK prices). The 5800X3D throws punches with non-X3D 7000 series CPUs and several Intel 14th gen CPUs. It is by no means a slouch and honestly I'd still recommend people buy it today if the 7800X3D is outside their budget. It's simply THAT good. MSFS on the otherhand seriously lacks optimisation but is quite frankly par the course for a lot of deeply simulated CPU-based focused games. You can't keep throwing more power at the game in hopes of good performane, it is what is it. The only saving grace is using frame generation but that has it's own set of problems. The hope is that FS24 would be better optimised. I won't answer for you, only to lay this for you. You will need to buy a new motherboard, DDR5 ram (AM5 boot times are roughly 1-4 minutes because of memory training) and a new CPU to expect.. maybe 10-15% more improvement. Is that a price you're willing to front for such an improvement?
June 4, 20242 yr It will be interesting to see the real benchmarks for the new CPUs. Intel unwraps Lunar Lake architecture: Up to 68% IPC gain for E-cores, 16% IPC gain for P-Cores | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) Raymond Fry.
June 7, 20242 yr Author https://imgur.com/a/5KkXP07 In my case several cores are reaching 100% and the stuttering that breaks the immersion is noticeable. The new CPUs with 3D cache are expected to arrive later this year. But it is better to wait a few months for the new technology to mature. Same with MSFS24. Surely after its launch it will have several updates and optimizations until we know which is the best hardware for it, so I don't see a bad idea to use the 7800x3d for 1 or two years. Anyway I hear more comments and opinions 😄
June 19, 20241 yr i went from 5800x3d to 7800x3d , i wouldn't if i where you no real improvement . unless you want to move to AM5 like i did , but on reflection wished i had stayed on AM4 i little while longer and waited for the 9xxx cpus ROG Crossair Hero X670e , 9900X, TUF 4090 , X4 NVME's. OS 2TB 980 Pro , MSFS 2TB WD Black , Kington Fury 64GB ram ( 6000) Corsair RM1000 PSU, Artic Freezer iii 360 AIO . Phanteks P600s Case ,TCL QM8B 50" 120 Hz TV,second 24 inch screen for charts you tube etc, and 11" touch screen for the EFB. Warthog Stick and TCA Captains throttle ( full pack) Velocity 1 Rudder Pedals , extreme3D for the Tiller,Streamdeck XL x2 / Streamdeck +/Streamdeck mini because i like pressing buttons
February 14, 20251 yr I know this is an old thread, but if you guys are still around, Would your thoughts hold true when compared to the new 9800 vs 5800 Ron MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.
