June 23, 20241 yr It's weight training " TOKYO (AP) — Here’s the message from Dr. Marcas Bamman, a physiologist with decades of research into aging who preaches the benefits of weight-resistance training for those who are getting up there". June 23, 20241 yr Yep, sarcopenia is the most debilitating aspect of aging. It's been known for a while that resistance training slows sarcopenia. I was a fanatical weight trainer at one time and studied muscular hypertrophy extensively. Recently started training again with resistance bands and tubes and have been quite suprised how effective they can be. I used to scoff at bands and tubes believing weights to be the way to go, but as long as you know what you are doing with bands and tubes they can stimulate hypertrophy quite well.
June 27, 20241 yr I have taken two draughts from the Fountain of Youth. Once in 1981, and again in 2004. I'm due again in a few years. Sarcopenia is indeed very dangerous. My father was quite the athlete and was able to lift weights well into his 70's. He eventually got sick in his 80's and I believe that he lasted several years longer because of his strength. For example, when spinal stenosis affected his walking, his extremely strong arms allowed him to manipulate his walker and other assistance devices easily.
