carenado Fokker 50

Recommended Posts

Omarza - has done a great job, small update today but otherwise - the F50 is now XP12.1 functional and workable. Very glad to see this done as I had been sitting on the F50 as it is a very well made model textures and models with great systems etc. So yep it all works as it should in XP12. I did wonder about Carenado agreeing but realise you have to buy the XP11 model anyway so they are getting the upgrades done for free and still pick up something for the original. Good job by Omarza by the way.

There were lots of paints for the F50 in FSX/P3D. Not to hard to convert some for XP so a good selection of liveries to fit. I've redone the Ansett, Alliance and Skywest original P3D paints by Jan Kees they are all fine.

No, Manky1 and Omarza are two different people.

The agreement with Carenado is that only modified files may be distributed. And as tempting as it is, I very stronly advocate against giving Carenado money from buying an unsupported XP11 model just because there is a third party XP12 compatibility patch. X-Plane 12 is a moving target and some update may just break the (very old) copy protection and systems plugin used by Carenado for good.

Omarza did the DHC6. Not sure who Manky is.

I feel the opposite - if I was a developer willing to fix someone else's work, especially if they no longer want to, I would be thankful that I can resurrect an old plane for the community, and at the same time I am happy to contribute to the original author for his kind permission to share the modified files. It should drive sales and who knows what else? It doesn't hurt anything either. Buyer beware and all that. I guess it is up to the buyer in the end.

If there was willingness on Carenado's side to officially get back into the ring for XP12 and beyond, I'd agree that purchases of their products and the third party compatibility updates can serve as a vote of confidence. But as we've seen, the Fokker 50 was the end of the line and absolutely nothing came after it, is coming and will come. All there is left to do is pray that their SASL plugin won't float belly-up in the plugins folder someday.

P.S: I'm the one who did the Saab 340 compatibility update. Not out of love for Carenado's finances and the incredibly naive hope that they'll rise like Phoenix from the ashes from a trickle of additional revenue from the S340, but for the very sole reason of not wanting to have a salvageable aircraft rotting away on the hard drive.

I certainly would not buy it just to get the F50 or any other Carenado product again - like Bjoern it was another Carenado item rotting in the virtual hangar. At least Omarza took the time and trouble to fix it up. Yeah we await the SASL crash (in due course no doubt).
