I have only recently had access to the full selection of Navigraph charts, so I am not intimately familiar with all of the information displayed. However, I would just like to know the answer to one question. As an example, I am looking at the chart for the final approach to runway 01 at EBBR Brussels. It shows the glideslope starting at 5.6nm and 2000 feet. Prior to that, it shows a flat line, with the altitude at BURUS (10.8nm) also 2000 feet. My question is......am I supposed to be at 2000 feet at BURUS, or is that just the minimum permitted altitude? In  other words, can I be on the glideslope at BURUS, but at the appropriately higher altitude?

I know that this probably sounds like a daft question to some of you (particularly as it seems to state mandatory 2000 feet on the chart), but I want to be absolutely certain.

From what I know the charts display the min or max or both, altitudes for that way point. Sometimes you’ll have a waypoint with above but below certain flight levels. Example above 6000 but below 8000 etc.  the charts will state if there’s a mandatory altitude, that you need to be established on at certain points. 
 

Read the charts and look for the lines above and below the flight levels to determine the max and min flight levels. If you read the approach chart there are lines either on top or below the flight levels, the line above means you must be at or below that altitude, the line under the flight level means You must be at or above that flight level.

The 2000 ft at BURUS and thereafter until the FAF are minimum altitudes, so "at or above". The actual glide slope starts from 2000 ft at the Final Approach Fix (FAF) BR01F (D5.8 of IBX), so this is the "at" altitude. In this particular case, that is also a mandatory altitude as stated on the chart, but this is rather rare. More generally (and speaking for European airspace), the altitude at the FAF constitutes the optimum altitude for a 3 degree glide path, but is also only a minimum altitude, i. e. the glide slope may well be intercepted from above.

This will be for the procedural ILS, in reality you’d get radar vectors onto the ILS and probably at a higher altitude than 2000ft.

So, the full procedure ILS is how you’d fly it in the unlikely event there was no radar, it allows you to self navigate to pick up the LOC and GS. 

If you're doing it  that way then yes be at BURUS at 2000ft, this flat line you’re seeing is what’s known as the platform height.
