October 18, 20241 yr All, After reaching what appears to be the end of the road with my own little pre-built system nightmare, wanted to share with you all so that you can hopefully avoid the same. I bought a computer from CyberPowerPC in April 2023. (I’d always built my own before this, but, being in a busy stage of life, was hoping to make it easy. Ha!) It showed problems from the beginning — Sethos helped me with some of these — and failed completely in November 2023. Windows wouldn’t load. CPP told me repeatedly in writing they'd cover shipping for repairs after the first repair attempt. Relying on that, I sent it for repair in Nov 2023. It came back broken (not a LITTLE broken, “turned on for 10 minutes, bluescreened and then will not boot” broken) in December. CPP went back on its promise to pay shipping. Without other options, I sent it back. Again, it came back broken. I sent it again. It came back broken. And again...bottom line, it came back broken FOUR TIMES, most recently in July 2024; I spent nearly $1000 in shipping for this. It’s never been in my possession and functional (to the point of being usable) since November 2023. After being unable to get the computer to boot when it came back most recently in July, I took it to a local computer shop. They quickly diagnosed that three of the four RAM slots on the motherboard were broken; it would boot with either stick of RAM in the single working slot. CPP’s response? Send it back to us again, at your expense. From the beginning, all I asked CPP for was a simple refund. Instead, I was left with broken promises, failed repairs, and no engagement from CPP in a no-win-situation where CPP simply hasn’t upheld its warranty. Not only has CPP not been apologetic, they’ve been downright rude throughout this insane process. After months of fruitless attempts to get CPP to respond with something other than “send it to us again, at your expense” (oh, except for earlier this year when they had the chutzpah to claim the system was no longer under warranty!) I finally submitted a Better Business Bureau complaint. Their final response was “We already provided the customer with a rebuilt computer. If the customer claim that one has issues too, he needs to send it in for service.” Did I mention CPP also left a large metal tool inside the computer the FIRST time they sent it to me? Buyer beware. (Welcome advice on what to do now, btw. It seems I could replace the motherboard and have my local shop put it together? I’m also pretty sure CPP picked the wrong RAM for the system, so…) James
October 18, 20241 yr Sorry to hear the Cyber Power warranty service was that bad. I built my last two or three PC's and the only reason I replaced them was because technology moved forward and although they were rock solid performers, they simply lived beyond their useful lives. My current PC was bought from NewEgg, it's their ABS line of in-house builds. I bought it during the COVID pandemic and only bought it because components, especially video cards, were extremely expensive and nearly impossible to buy. It came to me with a small dent in the case, no big deal. A couple of weeks of use and the EVGA power supply failed, so I replaced it with a 900 watt Antec PSU that I had on hand. Several weeks after I replaced the PSU, the fans on the EVGA water cooler's radiator failed. I replaced the noisy and failed fans with Noctua fans, much quieter and they really move the air. Would I buy another pre-built PC? Maybe, but I had better luck with my own builds. You probably get a better pre-built PC when buying from a custom builder or a local shop that has developed a good reputation for itself. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
October 18, 20241 yr I purchased a Cyberpower computer with an AMD 7800x3d cpu on September 4th to replace my aging i7-11700k system but soon after installing WIN 11 and a few other programs I started to get BSOD's (Important process Failed and had to Reboot) errors and there were no Windows dump files or anything in Event Viewer. I tried several things like reseating my RAM and checking for loose connections and trying a different GPU and even resetting windows but nothing helped. I then contacted Cyberpower and they told me to return the computer for repair but with only two weeks of my 30 day return window left I opted for a full refund instead. It cost me $80 via UPS to ship it back but I did receive the full $1750 refund. I am now waiting for the new intel Arrow Lake chips or the AMD 9800x3d to be released before purchasing another PC but you can be sure it will not be from Cyberpower. October 22, 20241 yr I learned this 4 years ago. Not from experience, but by reading users reviews on Bestbuy (an American electronics chain store). CyperPower got bad reviews compared to other brands. And I went and looked now, same things. For best reviews it looks to me like Skytech is the brand to get. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
