November 23, 20241 yr The amount of 2024 compatible add-ons is rapidly growing. It seems that I will use both sims for a while. If you are in a related situation, with lots of 2020 add-ons, how are you going to organize it? I'm using Addos-Linker (compatible with both) but I'm not sure if I should physically separate the add-ons if they are compatible and can be used in both simulators. November 23, 20241 yr I’m planning to setup a new folder for 2024 mods. That way I can copy over stuff that I know is compatible and not get it mixed up. December 16, 20241 yr Similar to regis9, I started setting up new separate folders for 2024 mods, but it’s starting to look like a lot of duplicate files will need to be maintained. Like many others, I currently have folders set up in an Add-Ons Linker library for Aircraft, Scenery, Utilities, Airports, etc. with appropriate sub-folders. I want to use this single set of folders for both AL 2020 and AL2024 and minimize duplication of files within folders. The MSFS add-ons universe seems to include three basic types. Although I list all three below, it is No. 3 where I am getting stumped. (1) One Add-on “certified” compatible with both MFS2020 and MSF2024. I think these can be managed with one set of folders - just link a chosen add-on to either sim via either AL 2020 or Al 2024. (2) Add-ons that currently remain compatible with MSFS2020 only. This is the majority of my current add-ons. It seems this the situation can be handled by a single set of add-on folders utilizing the AL “hide” feature when accessing add-ons via AL 2024. (3) Add-ons compatible with MSFS2020 only or MSFS2024 only. For example, iniBuilds provides two versions and downloads for the A300-600: one for MSFS2020 and one for MSFS2024 and both have the same file name so cannot put in same aircraft folder. Other add-ons are following the same procedure with separate downloads for each sim. This is where my problem exists and some guidance is requested.
December 16, 20241 yr I'm planning to just keep everything where I had it for 2020 and use the two Addon Linker app versions. I have a bunch of presets set up in the 2020 version and I will just do the same for 2024. Then I just have to manage presets when something is added or deleted. I'm debating whether to move stuff compatible with both or even just 2024 into separate subfolders though so if I eventually dump 2020 I might regain about 5-600GB in space (base prem deluxe sim + all WU's + 2020 specific addons). Would make it easier to identifiy 2020 only addons that could just be deleted and contribute to that freed space. December 16, 20241 yr Hello, Just a little reminder if you use Addons Linker and share the same folders for 2020 and 2024. Starting with version 0.23.x you can hide non compatible addons, this will make sure they the non compatible one won't bother you and, more importantly, in case you have twice the same addon with the same folder name (one version for 2020 and one version for 2024 like the inibuild a300), it should prevent all conflicts when using certain features and options. The post here might give you a bit more informations (if you click on the colored header below you should get straight the correct post on page 5 with the image) : Then if you want to assign some more info to a specific addon (like 'partially compatible') you can also use the 'tag' feature. See also a little post about that in that same thread (near the bottom of page 6). It's just a reminder because i know by experience that not everyone reads every 'what's new' and uses new features immediately (i don't 😱 😁) 🍻 Edited December 16, 20241 yr by Bad_T
