It's not needed in 2024, but I still use it because I prefer google maps instead of Bing. But it works fine in 2024.

But don't you lose the detailed terrain?

Does LittleNavmap work yet?

It's worked for me from "day one" and still does.
So does JoinFS for anyone who likes multiplayer flying.

Does this MOD improve the ground quality? I only fly with the Fenix, I use AutoFPS with a TLOD of 400 in cruise, but I still find the ground too blurry compared to 2020.

I understood that there was a HIGH LOD option" would that help to have a sharper ground?

Without necessarily using Google Map, but the latest BING version.

I just tried it with Apple Maps Pro from Gibraltar to Seville with the high LOD option. It's probably due to Apple Maps, but in places the ground looked word not allowed. Just painful to look at.

It does not affect the 2024 4000x ground resolution though.

I'll do the flight in the reverse direction and try with latest Bing maps.

EDIT: Another thing is that it doesn't look good in areas with photogrammetry e.g. Seville:

EDIT2: Flying back to Gibraltar now with latest Bing maps. Don't look very good either. I won't post another screenshot due to the max allowed per post.

Conclusion: Well, perhaps the mod doesn't add that much to 2024 (or is actually worse, at least in places).

The latest Bing maps the last time I used them had abrupt color changes in several areas. In the end in x-plane I have downloaded Spain with Here maps with ortho4xp, they are not perfect but they are the ones that have given me the best results. Unfortunately for Map enhacement, which I also use, this provider is not available.

Is the Map Enhancement mod still relevent in MSFS2024? Does it work in 2024?

Thanks

Tried it and I was wondering why 2024 turned large areas around Canberra a sickly green, and then put multicoloured polkadots all over a hill near the Deep Space Centre even after I'd stopped using it.  Then cleared the rolling cache and without ME it came back fine.

So, from hearing the feedback, this MOD is not very useful, it doesn't remove the blurry ground either with the high lod?

I've been experimenting with the mod in various places. In Europe, North America, AU&NZ I don't think it's worth it as the default Bing Maps seem quite up to date. Also, where different tiles meet, there seems to be some sort of AI smoothing going on, so that the difference is less pronounced.

In South America, Apple Maps Pro seems to work really well. Africa: latest Bing Maps. Asia: well it really depends on where as some places look good enough with latest Bing Maps, other look better with Apple Maps etc.

Just keep in mind that if the mod is used in one session, then default Bing Maps is used in the next session, there might be some weird looking textures. I think this might be because there's mixed data (mod and default) in the cache file. Below is El Paso TX with default Bing Maps (before I deleted the cache file):

When I shut down the sim, deleted the cache then restarted the sim, things went back to normal.

Actually in Australia the ground doesn't look great in a lot of places with default Bing Maps.

EDIT: That was on the way from Melbourne to the east coast, across the Great Dividing Range. Could have been just as bad with Apple, Google etc. Didn't compare. Currently flying north of Cairns, looks great.
