Q3 is hit and miss on it's best day.

Works great for me especially with SSW, haven't done any tinkering either, not to mention im using and AMD card.

You need a direct connection to your video card.🤔

You did at a time, but I'd argue you genuinely don't with the likes of Virtual Desktop and AV1 encoding.

Third the best bang for your buck is Pimax Crystal Light.

How? It's a £700 headset

Have you tried the CL to compare to the Q3?  That's the only way you'll really know plus with all the great headsets upwards of $1,000USD the CL's price is a bargain for what you get.😎

I had a Q3 and the performance and clarity of the CL had me selling the Q3 on Ebay.😶

I know the resolution is a lot better but it’s also £200 more, that’s kind of expected. Yes against £1000 headsets the CL is a bargain but not against the sub £500 VR market. For £500 the Q3 is all-around a great purchase compared to its counterparts.

That’s fine but it doesn’t really detract my point.

I know very little about the other headsets........and.....

Meta are selling a console experience that you wear on your head so a lot of their marketing is pushing a stand alone VR unit (which is their primary concern) that can also do PCVR. Being and Android device it's not particularly open to tinkering or investigation. Meta also insist on a phone app to set things up and to control some settings. So I have the meta app link on PC, Meta app on my wife's phone (My phone is old and incompatible with the APP). The whole setup seems clunky and awkward. Also the Quest support is terrible in my experience. If folk have a problem they are urged to send details via PM and no further public discussion regarding solutions is had.

Finally decided to use Virtual Desktop and it's a marked improvement on the Meta Link software. It's now giving me a useable level of graphics, bearing in mind I have a low level PC (see sig) it's really quite impressive. Colours seem a bit washed out. I'm still getting some juddering in the cockpit and very blurry instrument labels. The controllers (be it Mouse or quest controllers) seem very unreliable. They sometimes work, sometimes not, sometimes only half working. The later issue is still keeping me from using VR-MSFS regularly. The added layer of techno research, trial and error that comes with VR is a right pain in the a**e......I'm semi retired with a family to enjoy. I've been involved with computers, CNC, 2D-3D design for most of my working life so I know I can do it but I'm reaching a point in my life were I just don't want to do it anymore. I need a pay and play sim experience now, the tweaking bit has lost it's appeal.

Virtual desktop is improving other PCVR titles though with the added bonus of being wireless.

Is it really though? My 3070Ti runs my G2 just fine at pretty high settings. It absolutely cannot run the CL, at least not in MSFS, at any decent resolution if I want the framerates to be higher than slideshow levels. That's why I'm considering my options for a video card upgrade, which means I need to add the $900 price of the card to whatever video card I end up getting so I can actually use it, and that's gonna be potentially $2,000 more if the 5090 ends up being the only option to run the sim well at higher settings.

Not saying it's not a good headset. I don't regret my purchase at all, but I'm also fortune enough to be able to drop a, frankly, irresponsible amount of money on this hobby (not saying it doesn't sting, mind you) and if I weren't that lucky there would probably be a much more reasonably bang-for-buck path by going somewhere other than Pimax.

It is and you're on borrowed time with the G2.  If you have W11, whenever the next version update makes it to your machine your dead in the water.  Wireless options like the Q3 is hit and miss depending on your Wifi signal (buffer bloat is a real thing).  Pimax has not been doing good in the support department based on what I'm reading.  I was lucky to get a problem free headset and it runs circles around everything else out there that I tried.  Hopefully in the next year we'll have a few more options.🤞

Yeah, that's why I got the Pimax. And as you saw in the other thread you replied to (thanks, btw), I'm currently figuring out what my next card is going to be so I can run the thing. I'm still on 10 but will have to switch to 11 once they end support this next Fall.
