Optimal graphic settings for new build? MSFS2020

Featured Replies

I think I need to tweak some things.... Just did a new build things just dont seem right. Granted, I loaded into ultra and almost maxed everything to see what happened. Flightbeam KSFO, PMDG 77W.

9800X3d, 64GB DDR5 6000. I came from a 12900k w/ 32 GB.

Caveat is that I am still running my 3080ti until I get my new graphics card.... which will either be a 5080 OR a 7900 XTX... 7900XTX will be my fallback when I end up missing out on a 5080 FE.

What are the key settings with my current arrangement? I had frames so low it was difficult to land at SFO, which I have never experienced on my old system.

I tip my hat off to you. Those are some expensive parts. What is your end goal with the system you're building for MS2024? As far as performance?

Im not going to 2024 until its more stable and more 3rd party add ons are available for it. So, 2020 for the time being.

I'd say 90% of my flying is airliner. The reality is that I had not really messed with the settings much under my previous system so I don't really know which settings impact FPS more than others. I was on P3D for years and had that dialed in but never really bothered with MSFS for some reason.

I also run a G9 OLED, forgot to mention that.

I'd say I really want to push my setup but still maintain 25-30 fps at the very minimum.

So now you are no longer CPU limited, in theory. Your remaining bottlenecks would be from heavy GPU utilizers such as clouds, OLOD, TLOD, and special effects. Another potential bottleneck would be your own internet bandwidth for streaming, and the last bottleneck would be the server speed from the developers.

I expect that some "load stutters" and slowdowns due to server issues will never go away, no matter what your hardware is.

That said, if you want to optimize things for your system, pull back on OLOD, TLOD, clouds, special effects, and other things that sit hard on your GPU.

If you don't have it already, use MSFS_AutoFPS by ResetXPDR.

3080Ti is not bad at all. It is still considered as medium (high tier) card.

What screen resolution are you running at?

Install Nvidia driver . It will most certainly help!

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

My update to this increased fps 30 percent and greatly reduced stutters.

At big hubs like KJFK, EGLL etc.you can start by reducing your tlod and ai traffic density. I have 7950 x3d and 4090. At inibuilds KJFK I have 35-40 fps(not frame generation) with fenix, %40 aig traffic and auto fps(tlod;50).
