Qualitywings 787 from P3D vs Horizon 787

Featured Replies

Hello all,

For those that remember the old QW 787 from P3D (I still mainly fly P3D at the moment):

How does the Horizon compare with the QW?  I am mainly intersted in the accuracy of avionics, autoflight, systems and how it flies etc. as opposed to visual model (which looks amazing on the Horizon).

Would be keen to hear your opinions!

Cheers,

R 🙂

If you’re interested in the accuracy of the avionics then working title have done a fantastic job in recreating very accurate PFD, ND and HUD. The colour, fonts and behaviour is much much better than the QW version.

My only gripe is that the HUD flight guidance cue doesn’t always sit with in the FPV with the autopilot engaged, which it does on the real aircraft.

Certainly VNAV seems ok, FLCH seems to misbehave sometimes going into HOLD during a climb, which is dangerous.

There’s quite a few EICAS messages that pop up which shows there’s some depth of system logic quietly going on in the background .

The EFB will send performance to the FMC , which is nice. The FMC itself however is limited to mainstream functionality, in that there’s enough for A-B flying but the more fancy stuff isn’t there.

Flight model wise, there’s some dubious pitch angles and it over performs from what I remember.

Visually in the flightdeck it’s very nice and accurate compared to the QW version.

On the whole I find it a little frustrating as there are some really nice things but it’s bolted on to an inaccurate default aircraft so is missing a lot of things that would make it truly magical.

Im sure, or at least I hope there will be further development in the systems and FMC in the future.

I’d be particularly happy if they implemented more features on the COMM page and also did a good simulation of the TCP tuning control panel as there’s some really interesting functionality in that little box , it’s much more that just a place to select frequencies.

The QW has slightly more systems depth in some cases, but out of the 2 the WT/Horizon version would be my favourite, and I’d recommend you have a go if you like the 787. It captures the feeling of the actual aircraft much better.

Using the default 787 HUD in MSFS 2024 in VR looks and feels almost identical to flying the real thing through the HUD.

Not a real 787 pilot here but I'd mirror what jon b said.

The atmosphere of the flight deck is great and feels quite immersive. My gripe is with the flight model (feels overpowered and overall just a bit off) and some of the AP modes have buggy behaviours. I've grounded mine and back to the Fenix/PMDG 777. I would love a high quality 787...

Be interesting if the flight factor 787 comes to xplane 12.  Ill be amazed if it does, and if it does it will more than likely be another pay to beta half baked product from them

I prefer the qw 787 over the HS 787 which i agree just doesnt feel right.  We have the 787 at my airline so id love a decent one.

And Bravo Airspace 787-8 and 787-9 would be in the comparison too? how about those in general? yes, they also have WT avionics fitted in.
