DLSS4 and Nvidia new driver 572.16

Featured Replies

Installed DLSS4 and new Nvidia driver, and for me still a CTD in MSFS2024 as soon as I enter put on my Varjo Aero and switch to VR. Tens of times now last weeks. 2020 performs well.

2024 SU beta 1 performs even better for me. I de-installed previous Nvidia driver before installing the new 572.16. it is obviously not an inherent MSFS 2024+572.16 +DLSS4 problem.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

53fps in VR is fantastic. Based on your screenshot, if you're running PCL, you're probably on 0.7x quality + DLSS Balanced?

unfortunately not so fantastic, screenshot was a few days before I upgraded to PCL just yesterday. that screenshot was still with HP Reverb G2, DLSS Quality. have to update my profile. with PCL it is not as rosy, traded image quality for fps. I am afraid even a 5090 won't cut it to reach 53 fps again.  this one is with PCL:

yeah, that's why I keep saying until we have like 6090 or even 7090, higher resolution VRs beyond PCL level are just not meaningful. Or, if they can make famegen to work in VR? That might be a real solution.

By the way, RTX 5090s are, predictably, already out of stock everywhere now. $6000 is what scalpers ask for the moment.

preset k with the new dlss still gives blurry speed/alt digits on MFDs in my vr setup.

you can have blurry digits even without DLSS in VR, depending on so many settings for your headset and in the MSFS 2024 DLSS and VR settings.

in my Pimax Crystal light I can make it Crystal 🤣clear or I can sacrifice clarity for fps.  we don't know type of your VR headset nor any of your DLSS/quality VR settings. in other words: it CAN look fantastic so much so that I could not really observe a major difference.

Yeah same for me - it’s the same as the blue I used to get with previous versions of DLSS.

I also have the 3090 so maybe that’s the common factor.

NVidia said DLSS4 definitely needs more horse power than previous versions. not surprisingly since the AI calculations provide so much better visual quality. my configuration:

MSFS 2024 SU1 beta 2

the new DLLs for DLSS4 version 310.2.1

Preset K

latest Nvidia driver 572.16

apply that simple registry entry to display the white text watermark. then you are 100% sure everything was installed correctly:

no, DLSS 4 Super Resolution is supported on ALL RTX cards:

for clarity, mfs2020 taa is still king, getting ~38fps flying over some country in germany.  dlss quality is around ~38fps as well, but moving digits not as sharp or ghosty.  balanced setting 10% better but blurrier but not super bad.  i'm sure when i upgrade to a 5090 rig it will all look and perform better.

Well my experience this evening has been like a breath of fresh air.  Amazing results in the Quest 3 with both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024, so I then set out to do the same comparison with the Crystal Light.

Here, I started in MSFS2020 and, instead of moving onto 2024, just spent the rest of the evening flying different aircraft in 2020 and going 'WOW'.  Superb quality of visuals and MUCH better FPS on my rig.  And BeyondATC - which had got to the stage in the past month where I had been having to reduce sim settings for it to just to run - well, it now runs like magic.

Personally, there has been no change before on my system that has made this degree of improvement of visuals and performance in just one step.  Not even when I upgraded from my previous RTX3080 to a RTX4080!

“Supported” vs optimal experience are two different things 😉

anyway. I have a 5090 on preorder so time will tell.

optimal experience

what is "optimal experience"? 50 fps instead of 40? for a 16 mega pixel VR headset like the new Pimax Crystal Light and others we are still far from "optimal experience".

all current information hints to only about 25% higher performance. not enough for me to justify $ 2.500. pure rasterization performance improvements like we have seen in the past has come to an end it seems. if there was MultiFrameGen support in VR I would not hesitate one second and be prepared to spend even more than that. but since that is not going to happen any time soon, all my hopes are exclusively on further progress on DLSS AI based super resolution, like the latest version 4 has shown that this is indeed possible. and perhaps some other methods of optimisation like Dynamic Foveated rendering etc.

How did you manage to have 5090 on preorder?

All I could see on Newegg, BestBuy, B&H etc are "SOLD OUT"s, not a single hint where and when this 5090 is available for real. Nobody offers a preorder button. Extremely frustrating.
