MSFS 2020 and 2024 not launching

Featured Replies

My MSFS PC stays pretty clean, with no other use that FS.

This morning,  I tried launching 2020.   A second or two where it appears to launch;  no spash screen  ...then, nothing.   No errors, no splash or load.

Ethernet connection is good - solid up/down.  No problems with web browsers or sites.

I went to 2024 and had the same problem.  Exact same thing;  no load.

Tried renaming my Community folder, but Windows says it's in use.  Nothing strange in Task Mgr.

Checked XBox app.  Tried launching directly using the XBox "Play" option  - same problem.   FWIW, XBox Insider Hub will not launch at all.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Best Regards,

Mark

Just ended a 2.5 hr flight in 2024, try logging out, and back in if XBox App.

I'm in the same boat. I thought it was related to being in China and experiencing internet issues at the hotel. Day by day, this MSFS is having all sorts of problems; it shouldn't depend on the cloud, as it has way too many issues as it is currently implemented.

May be a security problem with Win 11?

If I click (almost) any window, including the MS Store or XBox window, the display changes tint slightly, similar to when I load certain FS apps that give a security warning.

Chrome web browser is not affected.  I checked Orbx installer and it's also fine.  Last install was a small update from Orbx yesterday.

No idea if this will help you but I was just troubleshooting a similar issue on my Dad's PC with a MSFS 2020 install where he would try to start the sim and after a few seconds it just went back to the desktop without starting flight sim.  His issue was with a file named "190_E658703.dll"

I followed the directions I found on the post below and it ended up solving the problem.  His PC had four separate instances of this file that I needed to delete, I think I read in that post that others had more instances of the file on their PC.  It seems to be only related to nVidia cards so not sure if this applies in your situation.

Good luck

I had the same problem with MSFS 2024 not loading.  See my post below.  Will try to find those .dll files and delete them.

I kept going back to XBox games app, which wouldn’t load at all either.

After no apparent changes on my PC, XBox app appeared and I could launch it.  I was then able to run Update within the XBox app.  Now, both simulators are back up and running.

I tried X-Box Repair and no luck. I installed a Dell firmware update thinking that would do it,but no luck.

At least I can use MFSF 2020.  Thanks for your suggestions.

  • 5 months later...

I had this problem and solved reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable.

I've been meaning to post this for several days, but thought I'm the only one that was affected by this. A few weeks ago I had both sims running very well, very dependable, and not having any CTD's at all. Both are running in beta's. I've always had great luck with betas, and anytime there were issues, I was always able to fix them. Then when SU3 Beta 1.5.16.0 was released, I suddenly started getting CTD  right after the initial start screen, just as the sim was starting to load. I tried everything I could think of, and everything I could find on line about it, but couldn't get it to work. After several days of working with it, including several re-installs, I decided to take a break and fly in 2020, since it has been so stable. Got exactly the same issue with CTD's. I tried troubleshooting this for several days as well, but no luck. I even went so far as formatting my drive and re-installing EVERYTHING, including windows. I managed to get both of them working for a short time, then it would go right back to the same issue. It took three system re-installs before I finally noticed at what  point they would stop working. And I reworded my online search about this issue and finally found my answer. Each time I started having these CTD's I had done a windows store update, and each time that particular update updated the "Gaming Services" app. The fix I found on Microsoft's MSFS forum was to un-install the "Gaming Services" app and the "Xbox" app, then re-install the "Xbox" app (which would automatically instal the "Gaming Services" app. Sure enough, it worked. A few days later I ran the Windows Store app, which modified the Gaming Services again, and I was back to having the CTD's again. So I tried the fix again, and I have both sims running again. Sorry for the long story, just wanted to show all the agony and frustrations I went through only to find a very simple fix that only takes a few minutes (and no reboot) to do. I hope this helps others who are having the same issue.

Please forgive me if you have already tried this. If you have the Nvidia App installed, delete it. This app can cause the type of CD you describe.
