Cannot get NDBs to work at all in C152

Featured Replies

I just started the sim a week ago and I'm only using the C152 until mastered.

For some reason I cannot pick up any NDB signals; I have spent hours and I'm very frustrated.

I watched a tutorial for LNM which I love, flew the exact pattern and frequencies for the NDBs, it worked for him but not me.

I have tried many others and nada.

It seems relatively simple, turn the lower right knob to ADF and set the frequency of the NDB.  Am I missing something here?  Or is this bugged to hell?

Thanks!

Which specific NDBs? (Identifier and location).

I have had a situation where the default Garmin 530 GPS would not receive any VOR nor ILS. it turned out some (don't know yet which) addon has caused this. after I emptied the COMMUNITY folder everything worked fine again, now slowly adding them back 1 by 1. try if you can receive the NA Narsarsuarq NDB on 359 KHz at BGBW Narsarsuaq, as in my screenshot, the ADF needle pointing directly towards it.

very nice.

Some, well actually around here in trhe Iberian Peninsula mostly all NDBs have been descontinued. Might be your case?

Thanks for the response,

Here's a snip from LNM showing the two NDBs that I was trying to use.

I've also tried some other random ones, nothing works.  Is there a way in the sim to see active NDBs/ORS?

This is just outside of Vancouver.

Thanks!!!!!

That NDB no longer exists. If it shows in LNM, I assume you are using an old database for LNM. I don’t know how old the default LNM database is. MSFS uses current nav data, so that NDB will have been (correctly) removed within MSFS.

If you have a Navigraph subscription, you can update LNM to use the latest nav data. This is probably the issue with many of the NDBs that do not show up in MSFS. A large number of NDBs have been permanently decommissioned throughout the world in the last few years.

Thanks everyone.  I tried NA Narsarsuarq NDB on 359 KHz, and it worked!  I have the latest version of LNM so I assumed it was up to date.

If I do a single monthly subscription to Navigraph and update LNM, will that remove the discontinued NDB/ORS?

Thanks again!!

Best thing to test is just to use the map in sim (from the icons on top of the screen). Just the regular/standard GPS map. It shows the navaids and you can see the NDBs with their frequency by clicking on them. Then you're sure it exists in the sim.

I fly the JPL C152 quite a lot (almost more than the Comanche from A2A) and use the NDBs as soon as I can. The signal can be blocked sometimes, you have to be at some altitude limit to receive it.

For example, I like to takeoff from Renton and fly to Darrington. There's a NDB in the middle of the road, from which I have to turn right. Sorry I don't remember the actual name of it, but you should find it easilly, it's the first thing north of Renton.

I don't think you need to do that (get a one-time subscription).

I think you can go to LNM, Scenery Library menu, Load Scenery Library, and then select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 from the dropdown, and select the "load" button.   It will then pull the navdata from MSFS2024 which, as I understand it, is not as old as what you're seeing by default in LNM.   If I'm wrong about this, I'm sure someone will come along to correct me.   If the NDB isn't in the sim, it then should not appear in your LNM display either.

Also, do this after every AIRAC update.
