GTN750 ILS approach problems at some airports

Featured Replies

I have found that at two different (destination) airports are no (ILS) PROCedures to choose from in the GTN750 yet they are displayed for selection in LIttleNavMan.

The 'problem' airports are YWLM and YSRI.

I assume that it might have something to do with Navdata however as far as I am concerned the ILS has existed at both airport for years,

One airport (YWLM) shares with the military (ie commercial and military aitrport) and the other airport (YSRI) is a military airport. Could this be the reason?

It's annoying that LNM shows then but GTN750 doesn't.

Do you have a Navigraph subscription?  I am showing the following ILS chart sets for the airports you mention...

YWLM: 2 ILS for RWY 12
YSRI: 3 ILS for RWY 28

Now, I haven't loaded up any aircraft near those locations with my GTN750 mod to test this as of yet, but they do appear in my Navigraph chart list which means they should be available in all of the nav/approach systems I use.

I just tried the PMS GTN750 and TDS GTN75Xi at YWLM and both GTNs showed ILS 12X and ILS 12Z.  I use Navigraph data and charts, however. Likewise, at YSRI I find ILS 28X, ILS 28Y, ILS 28Z.

Thanks

No I don't have a Navigraph subscription.

I just checked another airport (YSCB) as well as YSSY (Sydney) and the GTN750 also only lists the STARS no ILS approaches.

I am using MSFS2020 as the GTN750 for 2020 (are they different from 2024?).

Maybe I am setting up the flight plan incorrectly?

Using the GTN 750 I select 'Flight Plan'.  The departure airport is already populated and so I select 'Arrival Airport' and enter (with the keypad) the ICAO.

I then select 'return'

At this point I do not enter any waypoints.

I then select 'Proc' and then select 'Arrival' twice and then all I get is a list of the STARs.

[added later]

Maybe it's because I am only using the free version of GTN 750 which doesn't include some features that the subscription version has?

Did you try selecting approach instead of arrival?

For what it's worth I've been using 530 /750 addons for a decade in 3 different sims using different devs and this has been normal. I believe the nav data has to be in the correct format for the Garmins to display and use it.

As a matter of interest are the 'missing' ILS approaches certified for all ac or Cat II/III only? I don't believe the Garmins have ever been certified for that precision level is all? You'll find the same with some modern RNAV approaches too. Not an expert just an observer.

No.  I thought that the STAR was entered first.  Yes by selecting approach (first?) I get the ILS/Rwys displayed for choosing.

Well done Alvega  Thanks

I must beg my ignorance re selecting approach.

I had remembered that using an FMC, as in the B738, the STAR is selected first and then the ILS.

You can certainly select the STAR first, and then the Approach with the PMS GTN750. For example:

- click on YWLM, then Load Procedure, Arrival, Arrival again, then select the arrival you want and load it.
- then go back and click on YWLM again (which is now listed at the end of the STAR entry), then Load Procedure, Approach, Approach again, then select and load your approach.

Thanks AI.  I was just about to look for a Youtube tutorial to check the method the 'experts' use now I won't thanks to you.

I know it doesn't matter as no one else will ever see how I do it but what method do unrestricted pilots use? STAR or ILS/NAV/etc first. Maybe the Youtube presenters show the method unrestricted pilots use.

BTW I love the state you live in. Saw lots of it about 10 years ago when on tour. Loved Mesa Verde.
