Can't create rolling cache file - MSFS2024

Featured Replies

The MSFS 2024 installation on my desktop works fine, including the rolling cache.

However on my gaming laptop (ACER Predator) when I try to set up a rolling cache I get the message "Warning Invalid rolling cache path Rolling cache path is invalid".  This is using the default path (c:\users\[user name]\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024".

If I try another path I get "Warning Invalid rolling cache path Selected size for the rolling cache is not a numeric value" whatever size I put in.

Both C and D drives have plenty of spare space.

Any ideas?  This is doing my head in 😞

Hello.

Try to delete the cache file first before running the sim. Create a new destination and start the sim. In the sim menu, set a new destination and a new value. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

Checked no .ccc files anywhere on the PC.

Created new directory for the rolling cache (D:/FS_Rolling_Cache)

Start MSFS 2024, go to Online, select the path.  Fine but says the size (0) is incorrect so I enter for example 16GB.  No complaints.  Hit "Save and Exit".  Come back in and the path has reset to default with zero as the size.

More confused than ever 😞

I had the same problem just a bit ago, and I noticed it after the SU2 update.

I.e., it had been working before, but post update it wasn't.

IIRC, it came down to setting the size to zero AND setting the default path, and then quitting the sim entirely.

On reboot, I was able to change the directory, set, then change the size to 16gb, set. Then increase the size to 128gb.

Since then it's been working fine! 🙏

Thanks for the reply.  I'd seen that thread before, tried the various options suggested and nothing worked 😞

This has been happening since I installed MSFS2024 back in November.

I've tried your steps and while it allows me to set a 16GB cache file in my D drive directory and save from that screen without error, when I restart MSFS2024 it has reverted to the default path and there's no cache file in my D directory.

HOWEVER, the process creates a cache directory (0001_0004) in the default path (c:\users\[uname]\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\cache) but it's only 104k.  If I try to change the size of the file it says "Rolling cache path is invalid"!  So why on earth does it create a cache directory.  And why does it have files in it?

Curiouser and curiouser!

More testing and can confirm that even with the default path no rollingcache.ccc file is created anywhere.

Any more thoughts???

SOLVED!!!

The problem came from me using the same Steam account on both computers.  The result was that the laptop installation expected the rolling cache to be in the same path as on the desktop, but that directory didn't exist on the laptop.

Once I created said directory the problem was solved - the path came up in MSFS and I was able to change the size of the cache, save it, and the changes would stick.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thank you for the followup!

These followups are always important and I keep most of them in my favourites just in case I need it in the future 🙂

Great that you found the culprit!!!

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\ROLLINGCACHE.CCC

I'm on Steam, but I believe this is the default for Store.

My bad - it's not the Steam account it's the XBOX account.

Basically if you're using MSFS2024 (and I assume 2020) on multiple computers and using the same XBOX account with each they all have to have the rolling cache directory in the same place.

MY RC is in my FS2024\cache folder.

Big thing is to exclude FS2024 from Windows Defender.
