New GPU may not fit my mobo

Featured Replies

I am running a Asus Rog Strix Z790-A motherboard, and intend to upgrade my GPU to a RTX 5070TI which are in average 305mm long, should it fit my actual mother ?

Generally the motherboard isn't the issue--if you're going to have a fit issue it's usually the case.  Many older cases with non-removable 5.25 inch HDD bays won't accomodate the longer new GPUs.  A 305mm GPU is not super long, so you might get away with that.

The only way to know for sure is to measure it out.

Bob is exactly correct.  I had a very tight fit with my case getting a 4090.  I ended up getting the founders edition version as it was one of the few that would fit.

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

One approach to reduction in size of these latest generation GPUs is to go with a water block and water cooled setup.  I got an Alpha Cool water block for my PNY 5090 OC and it goes from 3 slot to 1 slot and from 327mm to 260mm length.

Not sure if that is an option for you but water cooling has come a long way in support and sizing over the decades.

My 4090 lives in a Fractal Mid-tower. The space between the 4090 and the back of the case is the thickness of one sheet of paper, maybe. But no adverse effects.

I went the other way and bought a case that fitted the hardware instead, an NZXT H710 - ATX Mid Tower PC Gaming Case.
This gives me 9 cm, or 3 1/2 inches between the end of the GPU and the nearest part of the case.
It also allows me to use a 360 mm triple fan CPU cooling solution.
At the time, the case that is £200 today on Amazon UK was on offer for £66, so it didn't take long to make my mind up.
