August 6, 2025Aug 6 Hi all For me at least, since sim update 16 I have been getting CTD whenever I fly over or from the top of New Zealand's south Island. A bunch of kind forum members tried to help me out with suggestions. I thank all of you However I believe I have narrowed this down to the points of interest in world update XII New Zealand. If I uninstall the points of interest I can load into a flight at NZNS however if I reinstall the points of interest I again get the CTD when loading a flight at the top of NZ south Island. This is the same with or without a completely empty community folder. I have contacted MSFS support, they have tried to help but they feel as I am the only one who has raised a ticket it must be only my system. I know of a few others from this community and the MSFS forum who have had the same issue, so it is not only me. However I have also heard from others who do not have this issue, so it likely not a common issue. The support team at MSFS now recommend a full uninstall/reinstall. So, from someone who has had to do a full uninstall reinstall how much of a drama is it? I recall back in 2020 it took me many hours to install MSFS2020, now with all my add-ons etc, I am not sure it is worth a uninstall/reinstall just to hope to get the POI back. Also to be honest I dont feel a uninstall/reinstall will work. I also have MSFS 2024 with sim update 2 which is working fine. I hope I dont have similar issues when sim update 3 is finally released. Thanks in advance if you can provide advice as to the drama a full uninstall/reinstall. And if you feel it may work. Best wishes. Bob Edited August 6, 2025Aug 6 by rlaycock
August 6, 2025Aug 6 If it's not as important to you, try not to install the NZ's POIs, they're just optional from the Content Manager. Hi Thanks for the reply At the moment I am using MSFS2020 without the NZ POI and it appears to be stable i.e. no CTD. But as a Kiwi I almost only fly in NZ so I fell I will miss the POI? Thanks again Best wishes. Bob

With Steam it's a very quick process (as in minutes). If you google it you will find a few videos on how to do it. I don't know anything regarding the store version. It's probably not relevant, but did you remove, or rename your community folder before the update? Also have you deleted the rolling cache etc? Edited August 7, 2025Aug 7 by cowpatz Cheers Steve Hall

So all of your models will still be there, just no POI labels. I don't use POI labels anyway so never install them. Hope that helps Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

However I am somewhat confused, i.e. I cant see that those indicators would require approximately 5 GB of disk space? Note when I have been installing reinstalling the NZ POI from sim update 12 it is about 5 GB so I assumed this would be the 3D models? Best wishes. Bob

Hi Thanks for the reply 1/ Sadly mine is the store version. I don't fancy a full reinstall then all the world and city updates etc. I may well end up having to do it but I guess I am hopping for quicker fix especially as the sim appears to be working fine so long as I don't install the POI for NZ, (but as a Kiwi this is a bit of a disappointment). 2/ I did not rename the community folder when installing the update. However I have done that when trying to troubleshoot the problem. 3/ I always have the rolling cache turned off so I cant see that having an impact. Best wishes. Bob
August 7, 2025Aug 7 I can confirm the bug. I operated 2 flights from NZWN to NZCH, 1 in the Fenix A320 and the other in the iFly737 MAX. Both flights developed a sound issue followed by a CTD. This occurred around 110 out fro NZCH and around the Kaikoura peninsular. I removed the NZ POI and all is fine. I dont normally do the POI updates as they are usually large, but I thought that I would give this one ago being NZ. I will raise a support ticket with Microsoft. Cheers Steve Hall

The fact that several of the community members hear are also experiencing this issue makes me reluctant to go down the full uninstall/reinstall path, Please do raise a ticket with Microsoft as it will strengthen my claim. However, although the team at Microsoft support did try to help me, once they established I had the issue with an empty community folder, the only advise they would give e was to do a full reinstall. Thanks again. Best wishes. Bob
August 7, 2025Aug 7 I also live in NZ and fly mostly within NZ too, so it’s a bit of an issue. Im not sure what your empty community folder has to do with it as the POI is in the official folder. Was there a NZ POI before the SU16 update or did it come with it. I guess we wait and see. Edited August 7, 2025Aug 7 by cowpatz Cheers Steve Hall

Hi Basically, the team at Microsoft blamed the CTD on a conflict with some third party add-on which would have been in the community folder. When they acknowledged I had emptied my community folder they simply advised a full uninstall and re install Best wishes. Bob

If it does it would be interesting to see if removing NZ POI makes a difference. Edited August 7, 2025Aug 7 by cowpatz Cheers Steve Hall

August 7, 2025Aug 7 It definitely sounds like more than just a single user issue. I hope that this is identified and sorted out soon 👍 Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
