August 23, 2025Aug 23 Well, it's done. Today I fully uninstalled FSX. I've been on 2020 sense a few months after the release, but had the old girl on stand by. It was a significant investment, with addon's, mods, planes, livery's... the kitchen sink. The original box set with acceleration is even missing. I love 2020, it's what my FSX wanted to be. I am surprised at how terrible the ATC is in 2020, but that is a minor thing. My FSX was gigabytes and gigabytes of code. It sorta felt like loading everything from a passed loved one for the dumb. But it's done. I'm going to do what MSFS is kind of supposed to make you do, and that is go out and build an able computer. This time around, I have the cash to really build a monster, and I might even replace some tried and true controllers with more premium ones. I'm not going into the weeds with MSFS and it's various iterations this time around. I'm going to give it the best computer I can afford, add some planes and weather, and just fly it. Tweaking is allot of work, and I'm just not that into it like that anymore. Anyway, it's done. Goodbye old friend.
August 23, 2025Aug 23 That's a lot of years with the old friend, a worthy time no doubt. If you want a tweak-free system for 2020, I'd suggest an AMD 7800X3D-based setup. It requires zero tweaking to have great MSFS2020 performance. You just turn it on, and it goes. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 23, 2025Aug 23 I checked your Location under your avatar: Mananas, Virginia. Bestbuy has a store there. That's a decent place to buy a computer. (check the Bestbuy user ratings to see which brand is most liked). Then you can go to that's brand's webpage to see their other models for direct shipping. That's how I bought my rig. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
August 23, 2025Aug 23 I know the feeling, I had (have) over £3000 worth of aircraft, airports, scenery and other bits and pieces. But since switching over to MSFS, I would not go back, even if you offered me £3000. 🤪 Joking aside, 2020 just looks and flies amazingly. I have 2024 installed and will start the switchover once ChasePlane is released for 2024. August 23, 2025Aug 23 The computer I originally built for FSX was state of the art at the time with an i7 3930k and a magnificent 16gigs of dd3. It would just about run FSX at 30fps at 1080p after three weeks of tweaking and if the wind was in the right direction....🤷♂️ Ten years later the same computer, with the addition of an rtx2070 gpu would give me a consistent 60fps at 1440p...in MSFS2020.
