    This is the clip I was looking for yesterday, but I was able to find it this morning.  It's from Second City TV, and it's their version of a science fiction edition of the Merv Griffin show, with John Candy as Orson Welles building the mash potato mountain from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".  

     

    All the videos are great.  Video #1 is priceless.  Orson does not seem very impressed.  Not exactly a Citizen Kane worthy commercial.

    Ironically, my wife and I just revisited Grover's Mill yesterday to see all the War of the World sites.  My favorite was the original water tower that was shot full of holes, people mistook it for a Martian.
