Upgrading airports from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

If I want to upgrade MSFS 2020 airports to the MSFS 2024 versions at the following outlets, how would I do it?

  • ORBx Central
  • MS Marketplace

Contrail/IniManager/SimMarket have options to install MSFS 2024 versions, but I am not certain what happens with the above. Do they both automatically detect that MSFS 2024 is installed, and provide download options for each product?

Haven't bought a single addon via Marketplace yet, but for ORBX, I think the best way is as follows:

For MSFS2020, you should have already defined a path for the ORBX Main Library:

In the following path, other Main Libraries are located too, like the Aerosoft One Library:

"ORBX Library" has two sub folders: msfs and msfs24.
With this main libraries, you just update this library and link them into the MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 community folder using https://de.flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker
(IMHO, best freeware available, make sure to drop a few GBP as a donation to the creator).

Like for Nürnberg, you link this exact folder to the MSFS2024 community:

In ORBX Central, you'll get to decide if you want to install new or updated products directly into the community folder (no) or in the Main Library (yes).

Edit: Just noticed, you can tell ORBX central to create that link for you. Addon linker still highly recommended for all other addons too, since it has many more cool features like an export feature to get an overview of all your addons:

Unfortunately, all I see above is a sea of purple, and "content not viewable in your region". For the record, I would not be installing MSFS 2024 on the same PC as MSFS 2020. It is one or the other. That being the case, I need to be able to install MSFS 2024, open up ORBx Central, and for that software to "see" that I have MSFS 2024 installed. I should then be able to install MSFS 2024 versions of the relevant addons without messing about.

That is the dream anyway.

All my 2020 marketplace content bar one or two that say ‘unavailable’ is available in the ‘my library’ section of 2024 to either stream or install locally. Some of them say ‘unverified’ but I’m yet to come across anything that doesn’t work.

Orbx Central I can’t say for sure as I just copied any 2020 content I bought from there into 2024’s community folder and it works just fine. I’m fairly sure you can point it directly to 2024 instead.

I’ve been in 2024 since the A340 dropped and despite a few niggles with the annoying UI I’m very satisfied now with the performance and how it looks. I think we’ve now got the sim it should have been on release, rather than the mess we got.

Does it matter if you copy the files of the 2020 to the folder called ”Community” or ”Official”?

Is it safe to simply copy 2020-files (Other than the ones of the ORBX products?) to the folders of the 2024?

Only MS Asobo or marketplace content appears in ‘official’, I can’t say I’ve tried to copy stuff there. There’s no need to copy any 2020 files as the compatible ones will appear in there anyway.

Yes, it's safe.
However, copy them to a different folder and link to this folder via Addon Linker to your community folder.
Just try it and have a quick look if the airport is working in MSFS2024.

Since ORBX isn't updating their EGHI Southampton for FS24 and Gaya isn't updating their LOWW Vienna neither, I've just dragged those two airports from the MSFS2020 linked folder to my 2024 folder and works perfectly fine without any issues.

Orbx Central -

It's a little different because if you try to find your 2020 purchases (with 'MSFS2024' selected in Orbx Central) you won't find them.

Instead if you go to the listed 2024 versions of most of your 2020 purchases, you see "Install", followed by "Free. 2020 to 2024 upgrade".   So you just install them from the store page, but don't have to pay anything.

Ah, so that should be OK if I do not also have MSFS 2020 installed?
