Setting up/editing standard viewpoint possible in MSFS24?

Featured Replies

Good evening folks,

I am looking for some help setting the standard viewpoint in MSFS24. For example i would like to set the view in the Visionjet a little more to the front since for my taste it is a  bit too much to the back.

I know in MSFS 20 there was a way to edit the config file but it seems that this is no longer possible in 24, is it?

The ingame Camera settings only work for height, zoom and sideways. Does anyone have a clue or advice on how this can be done in 24?

Any help highly appreciated.

Happy flying,

Thomas

or... by Copilot:

Quick Answer: Yes, you can set a custom default cockpit viewpoint in MSFS 2024 (including the Vision Jet). The trick is to adjust the camera manually, then save it as your new "pilot view" using the key binding for VFR Pilot View Save (commonly Ctrl+Alt+1 or a custom binding).

---

🛠 Step-by-Step Guide to Adjust the Default Cockpit View

1. Reset Global Camera Settings First

   - Go to Options > General > Camera.

   - Make sure Height, Horizontal Position, and Zoom are all set to 50.

   - This ensures your custom views save correctly (otherwise they may shift unexpectedly).

2. Adjust the Cockpit View in Flight

   - Load into the Vision Jet (or any aircraft).

   - Use the arrow keys (← → ↑ ↓) or assigned controller inputs to move the camera forward/backward, left/right.

   - Use Page Up/Page Down to move vertically.

   - Adjust zoom with + and - or your mouse scroll wheel until the view feels right.

3. Save Your New Default View

   - In Options > Controls, search for the command “VFR Pilot View Save”.

   - Assign it to a convenient key (e.g., Ctrl+Alt+1).

   - Once your view is positioned, press that key combo to save.

   - From now on, pressing Ctrl+1 (default recall) will bring up your saved viewpoint.

4. Optional: Multiple Custom Views

   - You can save additional viewpoints (e.g., overhead panel, pedestal) using Custom Camera Save commands (Ctrl+Alt+2, Ctrl+Alt+3, etc.).

   - Recall them with Alt+2, Alt+3, etc.

⚠️ Notes Specific to MSFS 2024 & Vision Jet

- Some users reported cockpit camera bugs in the Vision Jet where views don’t always save correctly. If you encounter this, double-check your bindings and global camera settings.

- If the bug persists, you may need to wait for Asobo’s patch or use a workaround by editing the camera.cfg file for the aircraft (advanced method).

✈️ Practical Tip for You

Since you want the Vision Jet view a little more forward, the easiest way is:

- Press the Up Arrow a few times to move forward.

- Adjust zoom slightly to balance field of view.

- Save with your VFR Pilot View Save binding.

That way, every time you load the Vision Jet, you’ll start with your preferred forward-facing cockpit perspective.

I just adjust the vewpoint using the cockpit camera controls, then press CTRL + F10 (save VFR Pilot View).

This will become the default view when you load the aircraft.

In FS2020...

I don't touch the cameras.cfg in

C:Users\jhmic\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community\THIS AIRCRAFT

As others have said, I set up one quick view (alt-ctrl-0); this creates a camera.cfg file in

C:Users\jhmic\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes\THIS AIRCRFT

and it's this file I muck around with. FWIW, in this file,

[CAMERADEFINITION.0]
Title="0"

[CAMERADEFINITION.0] is just the order in which you set up your quick views...

the '0' in Title="0" is the key you press to get that view.

If you activate dev mode, you can alter on the fly cameras.cfg in

C:Users\jhmic\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes and reload the aircraft using 'tools, behaviours, quick reload'

This way, you won't affect the views that come  with the sim. If you muck it all up, just delete the cameras.cfg in C:\Users\jhmic\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes

Simpler than it sounds!

Edit: x, y, z = right, up, forward - in metres

I find it hard to find a good viewpoint, because one touch left, right, up or down moves the view to much. Is it possible to move just a tiny bit in the desired direction?

I really need to do this in VR now, every time I get in the Caravan my viewpoint is far too forward so I have to physically lean forward then 'reset VR view' so that I'm back in the seat and correct position. Whilst it's not a major issue it is a minor inconvenience that I could do without, I seem to recall saving Seating positions in MSFS2020 once but that was years ago so will look into his again thanks to this thread.

...And yeah the moving left/right that I also need to do sometimes is far too much of a jump, maybe there's a mod on flightsim.to or something 🤔

This*, below, is from cameras.cfg in one of my planes in FS2020. Having set up quick view '0' (alt-ctrl-num pad 0) all you need to do is adjust

InitialXyz= 0.006, 0.205799, -0.005
InitialPbh= -3.997179, 0.251406, 0.391698

then reload. The up, down, left, right keys are too coarse.
