FlightFX Citation X's Honeywell Primus avionics suite :-(

Featured Replies

FlightFX's Citation X uses the Honeywell Primus 2000.
Unlike the Garmin avionics suite, like the Garmin G3000 in the TBM or Garmin G5000 in the Longitude, I find the Honeywell altitude and speed data difficult to read on the display. I find them too small.
I wouldn't be surprised if real pilots of the Citation X found them difficult to read as well, and it probably explain why the Honeywell was replaced by a Garmin 5000 in later models of the Citation X eg. Citation X+.
Is there a better way of viewing the altitude and speed data on the display in FlightFX's Citation X?.

Zoom in?

So, Matt, the Honeywell Primus 2000 here is different from the Primus Epic 2.0?

I recall recently flying the Honeywell Primus Epic 2.0 with (MSFS2024) PC-12 NGX and the Dornier Seastar, and found the avionics easy to read (close-up), and, in fact, refreshingly different from the Garmin types.

I understand that the Primus 2000 is an older version than the Primus Epic 2.0.

yes, in VR that is easy and what I often do by moving my head closer to where ever I need sharper details.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

@P_7878 I have not seen the Primus Epic 2.0. But I'll check it out. Thanks.

I don't understand why one needs to change to a close-up view in order to view the altitude and speed tape in an expensive business jet. No one I know does it driving in a car to check the speed on the speedometer.

Yes, the Primus is probably the older version. The Primus is used in the original Citation X (1996-2012). A later version of the Citation, the Citation X+ uses the Garmin 5000 (2012-2018).

See the comparison below between the Honeywell Primus and the Garmin G5000 avionics suite. Note how much clearer the Garmin is compared to the Honeywell Primus. (It's actually much, much clearer and readable in a 27-inch monitor. The fonts are bigger and are colored white in the Garmin G5000 unlike in the Primus). Both screen caps were taken in MSFS 2024 at the same time of the day in the same runway location.

I took a quick look at the panel of the PC-12 In MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe. You mentioned in has the Primus Epic but I think it's actually the Honeywell Apex?

The Apex (if it's that in the PC-12) is actually VERY nice! The altitude and speed tape data are large, in white color against a black background providing great contrast. It's just so much easier to read compared to the Primus in the Citation X. No close-up view or zooming required.

The unreadable altitude and speed tape in the Citation X makes it less than perfect.
I hope FlightFX develops the Citation X+ with the Garmin 5000.

Hi Matt:

At least, MSFS2024 labels the PC-12, on the a/c selection menu, as an "NGX" (not an "NG"). I read just now that the PC-12 NG has Honeywell Apex system while the PC-12 NGX has the Honeywell ACE system, the latter, powered by the Primus Epic 2.0 avionics.

Whether the MSFS2024 PC-12 NGX indeed is a faithful rendition of the Epic 2.0 (ACE), I cannot tell...no RW pilot here ...🙂...Please look at the 2 screenshots below, for MSFS2024 PC-12 NGX and the Dornier Seastar (supposedly also Epic 2.0), respectively.

These cockpits (actually) look like your Honeywell Apex system, to my eyes...🙂...on first glance ...

In any case, as you said, whether Apex or ACE, I agree that these 2 cockpit avionics system displays, seem miles ahead of the (older) Honeywell Primus 2000, that you find on your Citation X, in terms of clarity and ease of reading.

Ryan, here, can clarify further. He knows this stuff. Here, below, is a post, he had posted a while ago about the MSFS2024 PC-12 NGX.

Cheers...!

Nice. Thank you!

Try to increase screen birghtness.

Also, the Citation X comes with an LCD alternative (available in the EFB) which is worth trying out.

My "Zoom In" comment wasn't meant to be snarky or douchy, it was genuinely a legit answer lol, I completely understand what you mean about it being small. I  personally have a view (chaseplane) hotkey'd to zoom right up to the PFD. That works for me but if you are in VR im not sure how it works.
