February 24Feb 24 This claiming you as their property thing is made up nonsense. Cats rub against everything to mark it with their scent, doors, cardboard boxes, anything. They most likely mark their surroundings for situational awareness and familiarity, marking as safe, and to create a colony scent. Ownership is just something invented to encourage people to watch videos. Too much about animal behavior is spoken as fact when it's just speculation. Edited February 24Feb 24 by martin-w

Being definitive is impossible... having said that, he did it again yesterday. The scenario. Meowing for more food, over and over again, non stop. So I gave him a few biscuits. Not sufficient, silly human hasn't given me enough. More meowing followed. No, I thought to myself, vet said he needs to lose weight and he's already eaten loads today, So I sat down on the floor messing about with mt phone. Didn't notice him sitting to my right. Then.... like a feline guided missile he launched himself at my right bicep. Hypersonic canines incoming!!!! He doesn't do this often, I think this is the third time, but I'll leave you to hypothesize as why. I think you'll come to the same conclusion as me. P.S. He's not ginger but this image says it all. How does it feel to be "not the top of the food chain"? 😄 57 minutes ago, martin-w said: I gave him a few biscuits. All my cats get Purina Cat Chow. The bowls are always full for them. They eat as much as they want. None of them have ever been overweight. They don't much care for the indoor cat formula, so that's only when the normal formula isn't available at the store. They'll eat it if it's the only thing available. Fritz and Pyewacket, back in the old days, also got Tender Vittles. Both got up to 18 pounds. But they weren't fat at all, just very large cats. We haven't done that since the first two cats. You might want to ditch the biscuits and go with some nutrition complete cat food formula. The vet will probably tell you that's not healthy, but my cats usually live over 15 years on that diet. People food is bad for them, so they don't get many scraps. I've seen what happens to a chihuahua on a total diet of cheap hot dogs. It's not pretty. Think "(American) football with short legs". Good luck. Interesting..... maybe its because there are many cats competing for the food. Perhaps some cats are greedier than others and variable metabolism? He's been indoors for 5 years, only back out the last six months. Burning less calories, maybe. He had urinary crystals so he has to eat Royal Canin food thats better for kidneys. Vet recommended. The Vets favour dry food as its better for their teeth. He has both, wet and dry. Edited February 24Feb 24 by martin-w

He's a big cat too, physique wise. Cats do tend to hide the excessive weight, you can usually tell if overcweight from an overhead view. They get wider. The primordial pouch gets more dangling as well.

If I have more cats than bowls at the time I'll spill a little on the table for the extras. Most of the cats will share a bowl with another cat. The cats are never without access to food. I've had cats all my adult life, since 1976. Never only one. Two cats will keep each other amused where a single cat can get bored. We had a scare recently. Marty, the cat who demands to be held when he catches me in the bathroom, didn't show up for 3 days. We were afraid he was gone. The bathroom was lonely without him. I was sad. He was my favorite. Last night he showed up (in the bathroom, of course) and we were much relieved. I woke my wife up to tell her Marty was back. Whitey is the only one that bites, and it's almost always my wife. He goes for the hand. He only likes to be touched on his own terms. I finally got around to watching the video, and I have to say I agree with all of it. I'm guessing the scene with the tube type television and radiator heater was from the 50s or 60s. 🙂 A couple years ago my wife called out from the bathroom, "Why is this cat staring at me perplexed?" I answered, "It's because you're not petting him." I knew both of them very well. 🙂 He knew he had a captive audience and I always petted him. Cats are not animated sculptures. They each have a distinct personality. There are basically little people in there. Some of them are smarter than we are. One woman showed me a picture of her two Siamese cats and the amount of intelligence in their eyes was a little scary. Hook Edited February 24Feb 24 by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh!
