Preview: Merced-Yosemite Regional, CA (KMCE)

Featured Replies

My next project in progress is Merced-Yosemite Regional Airport, in California's central valley. My maternal grandfather grew up in Merced so this one is a tribute to him in a way.  In researching the project I found out they opened a new terminal in late 2025, so this is great timing for an upgrade over default scenery.

There are still many T-hangars and other small details to add. The surrounding industrial sites are large, but photo sources vary in quality so I may return some of the large warehouses back to default buildings. Not sure what will be better, in the end.

Yay, I see where you are creating a few Norcal apt's. VBazillio has lots of great ones in Socal.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

My sceneries are not nearly as detailed as vbazillio's...but yes I am trying to cover gaps! Still a lot of significant airports in the region that haven't really been covered for MSFS 🙂

@Nandengo12  Hi,

This sounds like a great project. (No-one in the UK can see your screenshots, because of the chosen hosting site.  For info, we can see images posted on 'Post Images ™️'  😎

I downloaded all of your other West Coast US sceneries yesterday and they are great!  Just one thing - your sceneries do not show the yellow star on the MSFS map (to indicate that they are custom).    I believe this requires a setting called something like "IsStarredAirport" to be set in the SDK tool.

Is this something you could look at?

I end up never flying in addon airports without the star because, after a short while, you forget they are custom because on the map, they look the same as default 'auto gen' airports.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will look for that and start adding it from now on. I don't really use that feature on the world map much (I usually type in the airport code I plan to visit) so that was a blind spot for me.

Thanks for creating this airport. I was born in Merced in 1950,my dad worked for United Airlines as an agent there until he transferred to Oakland in the late 50's. I still remember my brother and I flying to Merced from Oakland on a DC-3 to visit my grandmother.

My pleasure. Merced gets a bad rap but it's a chill little city. I used to love to fly x-country to the old Castle AFB and visit the museum.

Hopefully KMCE will give sim pilots more reasons to stop by.

Making good progress on MCE, hopefully can release within the week. Added about 50 trees today, redid some fencing vectors, added DME and localizer equipment, fixed the runway VASI/PAPI locations and redid all taxiway signs - MSFS had taxiway names all wrong again 🫠

Have also added some local landmarks including key buildings downtown and will be including the UC Merced campus as an option.

Still more ramp clutter to add, as well as missing utility poles and street lamps.

I really love the work you are doing and see you are proceeding south with your sceneries. I hope you make it as far as KSMX. The only air carrier is AAY and they only fly a few times a week. However Cal Fire is very active there with tankers, especially in the summer.

Hope to make it down to SMX eventually, have quite a few others on the horizon unfortunately:

KUKI
KCCR
S21
KPRB
KSCK
KWLW
O22
KMOD

Just to name a few. SCK, CCR, and PRB are pretty large and I expect to take awhile

Can't hardly wait for your KMOD, KSCK KCCR and O22..maybe an O15? Anyways,  you're doing good... I'll patiently wait..😇
