WASM, what does it mean?

Thanks Christopher, common sense question.

If you are seeing this, your Windows install may have had GPOs applied. Not sure how you had it setup, but it is not usual to see "your organization has blocked access". There are some windows tools like O&O ShutUp, and Debloaters that add GPOs (Group Policy Objects, don't ask lol), and if you used that (or Jetline did), this may be the reason.

Hey Jack, This actually happened to me too. It turned out to be outdated or incompatible WASM files (probably from airports or aircraft that haven’t been updated to match the current sim or aircr

Thanks. I don’t understand any of it but thanks. I’ll call them.

Windows thinks that every user is part of an organisation. Why is there an option to "run as administrator" if that is not the case?

Windows app warning whatever was fine with AIG traffic on Tuesday. It hated it yesterday.

I’m sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Is it from TV? I haven’t watched one minute of it for 37 years.

Earlier.

Yeah, I’d give them a call as it’s not normal.

I’m assuming you bought this computer and it’s not on some rental plan?  If you purchased it then you need to be setup as the owner/admin so don’t have these restrictions.

Windows 11 now does require a Microsoft account (can create one for free), BUT, there are ways to work around that and vary based on Home vs. Pro edition.  For some this is a significant deal, for others it doesn’t matter … not sure how you feel about it, but it’s easier to just go with the flow that big brother Microsoft want from you especially when it comes to using MSFS 2024.

WASM = WebAssembly Module.

Most complex aircraft in MSFS use it in one form or another. To put it simply it is a sandbox which allows developers to use languages like C++ to code various avionics and systems. Some like PMDG and IniBuilds use it extensively for almost all their aircraft systems. Others like Fenix use it only as a handle to link to their external application.

IIRC, it also allows for better security for the end user than a DLL would.

I believe one of the devs said that in one of the early 2020 Dev Q&As.

Just don’t end up knitting 4 jumpers where you wanted one 🙂

I try to simply copy the WASM folder or even what's inside it and I get this lousy message. ARGH!

Out of curiosity I tried the same and got the same message. My computer is joined to a home lab network, but I have no policies that would limit this. I am guessing Microsoft protects files in these folders because they are Microsoft Store programs, and an old AVSim thread suggests the same thing.

Anyway, none of that really matters and it's not really worth contacting your vendor support over this IMHO. There is no reason to back up the WASM folder... just delete the contents of that folder and any addon that uses WASM will rebuild the modules. This is basically just a cache folder, when you load an addon that uses WASM for the first time it takes longer to load as it builds out the files in that folder, and then subsequent loading is faster. For large complex aircraft it can take several minutes for that initial load, but something like the Aerostar should be much faster. Hope this can get you in the air a little quicker!

But that’s the thing, it won’t let me delete any of the files 🥺
