X-Plane 12 Star Wars Rain Effect

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody,

Since the star wars/warp speed rain effect is here for the duration it seems.... Is there a way to turn off the ability to have the rain reflect landing and strobe lighting? It looks far better if it isn't illuminated at night.

You need to slow down from warp speed🤣

If I do that I'll fall from the sky, AI passengers will demand a refund, I'm sure I'll also be required to provide a sample to the proper authorities. Guess we could always go around the rain 😂

There are videos of the real effect, what is the same.

Heck, I see it even in my cars headlights.

Not sure what you are saying there.... But, if you are saying that is close to real, that's simple not true! Let me see the videos (you refer to) of real rain flying into the aircraft at warp speed. Rain falls from the sky and gets blown around a bit due to the disturbed air, but it does NOT fly into the aircraft and the rain droplets don't stretch to ridiculous lengths of white lines. That rain effect looks like it's from the 1980s!

Landing lights on, no long solid white streaks flying into the aircraft at warp speed.

This is X-Plane Star Wars Warp Speed rain, not even close to real.

Hey Mike - Have you tried this plugin where you can control that effect?

Trying the link that JCOMM provided, I already use lua script, I just added the one liner to my haze script.

Think I may like this lua script a bit better, turns the effect on/off based on speed/alt!

Thanks

Even in hurricane force winds with city lighting don't turn the rain into Star Wars/Warp Speed rain as they do in XPlane.

The rain in XP12 when in the air.

I like and sometimes fly XP12 but the rain effects are not very good, I always thought Laminar would fix but never have.

Yep, if they aren't going to fix it, they should have an option to turn it off. But if the lua script works, problem solved.  If they left the 3D rain the way it is sitting at the gate where it looks nice, just allow the rain to slap against the windscreen when flying into it, instead of changing the rain itself and stretching it and turning it white. Things would be far better, but don't know if that's possible.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for the links! adding the kill switch allow me to have the 3D rain effects in my flight deck without having the star wars warp speed rain introduced at speed. This looks so much better at night!
