GSX and Pushback Express

Featured Replies

Hello Mates,

I need a pushback utility knowing that I'm currently in a G/A period. In other periods I fly liners. But in both cases, I'm not interested in ground services (fuel, catering, passengers, etc.)

Last friday I bought Push Back Express by FS2Crew for 10€ (sales). Problem: I get many oddities such as the pushback car is not manned, or stays in front of the aircraft after the pushback is finished, etc.

So I am considering GSX. Yeah I know 35€ only for a pushback... Oh well, if it works fine...

I have 3 questions:

1) The learning curve is easy? I mean I just want to pushback my A36 Bonanza when it is at a parking. I don't need to learn every feature.

2) There is an in game panel?

3) The push vehicle used for G/A is the one in the lower right corner of the screen below? Is it realistic to have that vehicle for an A36?

In general pushback works well in GSX with occasional oddities, especially in tight quarters, smaller airports and of note GSX has no clue what objects are in its proximity in large part, and even so generally works pretty well. After pushback completes you will let crew know your engines are running and it's time to disconnect and the tug then disconnects and crew waves bye bye to you. It used to be far quirkier than it currently is, and I find its developer just has, to me, a sometimes strange set of priorities. Because updates come frequently and take a few minutes to run I use Task Scheduler to run it at login to Win 11, at which point I can exit or update as needed, and this because if you're already running MSFS 2024 and GSX needs an update you are presented with a, to me, ugly yellow and black banner in its on-screen GSX menu to prompt you to update. But again, right now compared to a year ago, it's a net plus for me. Plus, it integrates fairly well with Self Loading Cargo, an add-on I use for all flights.

Thanks Noel for that feedback!

Also, because of the reality of GSX not being able to sense object proximity sometimes 'GSX Profiles' are sometimes used to give GSX explicit directions at a particular airport gate, and Profiles take a lot of work to make especially if you're after covering most gates in a big terminal. You can download many from a few different sources then install them in the requisite GSX folder that stores them for reference. Some airport devs will include them, but it's uncommon, again presumably because it takes a lot to produce high quality Profiles. Also, there are Profiles for various aircraft, again to help GSX nail down specifics for that airframe.

Regarding profiles, yes, that holds true for larger aircraft and airports.
In Tony's case he can easily use the custom pushback mode built into GSX and edit it from the map.

So I am considering GSX.

I believe Aerosoft also has a pushback utility. Both freeware and payware versions. Check out the freeware before you blow cash on anything else. It may suit you fine.

If you only want pushback for GA right now, I honestly think GSX is a bit overkill just for that. I use GSX mainly because I also fly the 737 a lot, so for me the extra ground stuff and airport coverage make the price easier to justify.

If your current use case is mostly the Bonanza and you do not care about servicing, I would probably try the cheaper or freeware route first and only move to GSX if you know you are going back to airliners regularly.

Oh why oh why can't we paste images <sigh>? It would be so helpful. Anyway here are some links to pics that might help. They include GSX menus, where applicable:

1) There are loads of pushback utilities on flightsim.to, but they're mainly for controlling the pushback - not the type of pushback equipment etc:
Basic (non-GSX) pushback

2) The initial GSX pushback menu:
Initial GSX menu

3) GSX pushback tug (the type will depend on your airport/gate):
GSX Pushback tug

4) GSX Pushback in operation:
In operation

5) Pushback options:

For simple GA pushbacks, GSX is definitely over the top. However - it's an amazing addon that you might get to use on other aircraft/flight types in the future. I use it mainly for airliner flights and often just sit there, watching the action - and enjoying the incredible detailing of the models. Even the groundcrew/passenger animations are good: not cheesy, like you see in some airport/scenery addons.

If you're still interested/intrigued, I'd suggest searching out some GSX videos on Youtube (or wherever).

I'll tell you what does work: Slew!

To start, press Y

8 = forward

2 = backward

4 = move left

6 = move right

1 = turn left a bit

3 = turn right a bit

When finished, press Y

It's not subtle but it does work when nothing else does.

Thank you very for your time and all the screenshots. Much appreciated! I have a better idea of the interface now. And also which model of tug is used for a small GA aircraft like the Bonanza. Maybe I will make an investment for my future period of liners.
