I distrust television and newspaper news anymore.

For some time I scrolled through google news selecting the stories and sources I felt comfortable with.

That's getting more and more difficult anymore. Paywalls - subscribe walls - signup walls - give us your e-mail address walls make finding what used to be free access to news more and more difficult.

Maybe the answer id to remain fat, dumb, happy and word not allowed of knowing the details of things I have control over anyway.

I would have thought CBS and NBC would be reasonably trustworthy. Likewise for respected newspapers like NY Times or Washington Post.

Well, in the old times, you had to pay for a subscription to get your local newspaper delivered. If you consider a paywall as the new way to finance investigative journalism, then it is money well spent. I am paying a subscription fee for one international journal.

When it comes to English news resources, I personally find BBC (UK), CBC (Canada), and CNN (USA) to be trustworthy and freely available resources that keep facts and opinions reasonably well separated.

CNN, BBC, CBC trustworthy?!?!?! That's hilarious!!! They are some of the biggest initial offenders as to why no one can trust the news any more. They wouldn't know a fact if it walked up and slapped them in the face.

Well, the Washington Post of 2026 certainly isn't the Washington Post of 1970. Not by a long shot.

When I was a student at the US Air War College, we had a couple ex-CNN executives come talk to us, and in frank terms they described how news was becoming for-profit entertainment: "if it bleeds it leads", and "the news media is like a wild dog at your door--you can feed it or it will go through your garbage" were two notable quotes I remember as they described the intense competition to fill bandwidth of 200+ cable/satellite channels with material--entertaining content--that would attract viewers, and as a result advertisers.

Anyway, I am going to lock this one as it is destined to descend into the partisan politics of the partisan "news" media.
