Saturday at 07:38 PM5 days After some extensive reading up on my United B707 AOM, I fired the Virtual Flight Engineer and decided to do everything myself, which I found rather rewarding !I made a solo workload flight and systems explanations tutorial. In particular I found the pressurisation system very rewarding to learn

I never get tired doing so. :)
Sunday at 03:29 PM4 days As a 21 year old I went flying in a BOAC 707 sitting in the jump seat while various Captains went through stalling exercises.Although we lost altitude the whole thing was quite benign less exciting than my Cessna 150. This seems to be modelled as I remember it. These were Captains of Pratt and Whitney 707s converting to the Rolls Royce version and boy what a hash they made of the landings on Prestwick's runway 13. Clearly a change of engine made a big difference to handling.

Playing FE was kinda fun, operating fuel pumps and buses and all sorts of stuff. I felt like the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain. The DC-8's fuel system is pretty cool. 10 tanks in the aerosoft one !

DC-8 would transfer fuel on longer flights. I'm not familiar enough with the 707 to know if in the real world they only ever had crossfeeding, and not tank to tank xfer. I'm assuming they only had crossfeeding real world and that this one is reasonably faithfully modelled? Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

The centre tanks are like override pumps and lateral balancing by feeding two engines off a single tank is possible, too. :)

This is so that the fuel from the center tank may be used by all engines at the same time, which is how the fuel panel is set up after takeoff if there is fuel in the center tank - that fuel is burned first, prior to burning from the main tanks. All of it.

All of it.Interestingly in the 707 manuals I have, depending on the route and certain factors, there are a few ways at which fuel management is approached - even something about leaving 7000lbs in the centre tank which I find confusing 😁
