December 29, 200223 yr I was considering purchasing RCv3 and was wondering can AI still be used? What happens to the internal ATC? Does the FS02 flight planner work well with RC? I am sure this is all in the manual but I am trying to get a few quck answers before I decide to purchase. Thanks Andrew Andrew
December 29, 200223 yr Well, for about the past six months I've been loading ProjectAI's aircraft and flight plans running at 100%ATC when along came my upgrade to RCv3 in the mail. It's been a bit of a learning/tweaking experience since then but it does work. Following the directions on page 105 of the RCv3 manual, I tune FSATC on Comm2 and just listen while I interact with RCv3 and run 50% chatter on Comm1. I seems to play an even amount of FSATC/PAI chatter and RCv3 chatter. When you have ~ 370 different AI aircraft with > 100 liveries, the comms channels are never quiet. Because I use the "`" & 1 keys to bring up the FSATC window to tune comm2 to FSATC, I had to change the RCv3 "1" key to "ctl-1". Becuase I choose to only listen to FSATC and not intercat with it, my only problem is RCv3 is it clears me to land at some large airport with any number of aircraft stacked up behind me on approach and aircraft already on the runway for takeoff which can make it quite challenging but negotiable for the most part. I do somewhat miss the takiway instructions when using FSATC ground, but that's my decision becuase I don't interact with the FSATC Ground controllers. Recommendation, play with the "chatter %" slider in the RCv3 options page to find your own best combination of RCv3 chatter and FSATC chatter. On final approach this morning into Heathrow after a 7 hour night flight from Philly. While taking this shot, admiring the new posky vorticies effects, I realized my IAS was too high, thereby making these vorticies. I soon paid the ultimate price for still having 230k lb/s of fuel on board. POSKY 747-400v3 NWA, FSNav, PSS Panel, RCv3, PAI, FSMeteo and SkyWorldSeAL (8-| Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
December 29, 200223 yr Commercial Member could you post the ai website, i'd like to start populating my "world"we tried to coordinate our aircraft/carrier names to match the project ai planes, so we call them by name/number.i mostly fly out of atlanta, are there any ai planes for me? December 29, 200223 yr HiJust browsing.http://www.projectai.com/default.aspFor the aicraft and installer etc.http://mostrealisticai.projectai.com/For some great flightplansThere is more traffic at ATL than you can shake a stick at JD.Remember you also need afcad to install the airports and ttools and AITM.This stuff is great once you get your arms around the tech side of it.Ron
December 29, 200223 yr Sure,Go to, www.projectai.com. They just realesed a beta of their new installer program which is gonna help AI newbies get it all installed in a matter of minutes. I've been hand configuring, managing & compliling my AI aircraft and flightpans with Thomas Molitars AITM program for months and I couldn't live without it http://www.molitor-home.de/fs/aitm/index.html. I'm anal about file correctness and flightplan errors, so I choose to do everything by hand. As for Atlanta, I'm full!!!!. PAI is creating very realistic real-world flightplans and very low polygon count models, therefors, I have a huge, huge Delta collection at atlanta including accurate models and tail liveries based on real aircraft numbers. Oh BTW, the new "Radius AFACAD" scheme we're using helps setup terminals with correct Liveries by changing the radius of your models to a specific value which matches their parking spots on their airport overlays. Enjoy...AL Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
December 29, 200223 yr JD,As for aricraft callsigns, you really should get in touch with Lars Mollebjerg, the creator of the Editvoicepack freeware utility available at http://bevelstone.xs4all.nl/FlightSimulator/EditVoicepack/ He has a central server which pushes out callsign updates that anyone can create and upload. This utility updates the X:FS2002aircraftairlines.cfg file. We copy this file over to our AITM program to get the callsigns correct for our individual AI aircraft entries. If you could somehow start using this file it sure would help keep RCv3 seemlessly updated in the background. Just a suggestion...AL Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
December 29, 200223 yr Hi Andrew,RC will co-exist with any ai traffic, but it will not control or interact with it. This is a limitation of FS2002--no add-on programs that I know of have figured out how to control the ai traffic. You will be able to see and hear the ai traffic around you, but the internal atc will not "see" your plane, and RC will not "see" the ai planes. The most common problem this causes is that RC may clear you to land when there are ai planes on the runway.Using RC rather than the internal atc is a tradeoff. You give up the interaction with the ai aircraft in return for atc that is superior in every other respect.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html
December 29, 200223 yr Oh yeah, the fs2002 flight planner...as far as I know there are no problems using it with RC.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html
December 29, 200223 yr Andrew,Everyone's fairly well covered the bases, but I want to add a couple notes.Absolutely, read through the manual. There is a lot to learn with RC, and when you get through the manual, you'll know a lot and be ready to go. You'll also have a pretty good understanding of what's in the program. Also, make sure to read about using RC and FSATC together. You can easily monitor FSATC while responding to RC controllers. So you can know what's going on around you Re AI. You'll also hear FSATC warn the other guys about you, which helps. RC will tell you about them if they're in or near your path. One thing NOT in the manual: make sure you have a multi-channel sound card, or updated drivers that can play sounds from multiple apps simultaneously (like an SB Live! or Audigy, or the like).
December 29, 200223 yr JD the best thing you could do is get ALL the PAI packages and install AFCAD files for all the airports your go to the most. Believe me when I say I have KATL looking like KATL on any given day. I use simflyers KATL with 4 overlays so all the planes go the correct terminals and use all 4 runways .All the Delta and Air Tran terminals are almost full while the other terminals are about 1/3 as you would expect at KATL.I use the AI flight plans from http://mostrealisticai.projectai.com/ .This way I can do a custom install of the pai stuff and leave out their flight plans for certain airlines .I just adjust the new flight plans from the above address according to what planes I already have. Be prepared for major traffic :DFinally I find AFCAD files that have nice overlays and use ATIM to move all flight to the correct overlay. It's alot of work and can be alittle confusing at first but once you see the outcome it makes this sim all the more realistic. December 29, 200223 yr Commercial Member yes, it is time for some more mellow mushroom.call me simple, but all i want is some planes in the air flying around, and going places in the air and on the ground.sounds like it still requires a little magic. JD Read my blog
December 30, 200223 yr Ya know, one thing I forgot to mention in my earlier posts is the fact that I'm having trouble with setting up multiple parallel runways at many of my larger airports around the world using one or more overlays and RC3. I find myself not remembering which runway I've setup for landing and which one I've setup for takeoffs, so on my descent into the area, I'm asking myself, which one did I setup for landing again? Unless I've missed something, neither RC3 ATIS nor FSATC ATIS has any real clue as to which runway is used for what. It's not until you contact FSATC-ground that you would actually be assigned a specific overlay runway for departure or likewise using FSATC-approach for arrival. I guess the only short-term alternative is to open up the arrival airport in AFCAD again and check the runway usage before loading the fligh plan into RC3. How are other folks handling this kind of situation?AL Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
December 30, 200223 yr AL,If you have comm 2 set up to monitor FSATC, then you can listen and see which runways are in use.
December 30, 200223 yr Thanks Scott, but I knew that... What I'm talking about is the actual usage of the runways from a modified overlay perspective. I.e, yes any atis will tell you (for example) KATL 27R landing/deprarting runway in use, but I have KATL 27R setup only for departures. I've modified the KATL 27L to be my arrival runway using AFCAD. This helps distribute the PAI load across many runways and gives it a much more realistic look. Now when you're approaching, using RC3, you're still trying to figure out (after having done this to many airports) which runway did I leave activated for arrival in AFCAD for this airport? FSATC Approach would be able to read the overlay itself and offer you only a particular "arrival" runway which the AI aircraft are also adhearing to. Does that make more sense to my question?AL Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
December 30, 200223 yr >AL, >>If you have comm 2 set up to monitor FSATC, then you can >listen and see which runways are in use. Hmmm, on second thought, maybe you did answer my question, or caused me to think about it some more. I guess I will have to pay more attention when "Listening" on comm2 specifically to FSATC-Approach and maybe I'll pickup an AI arrival instruction to a particular runway, then I'll have to quickly request the same runway on my RC3 menu. I was more wrapped up in thinking about this from an ATIS answer. Thanks, I'm glad I thought of that! LoL... :)AL Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
