January 7, 200323 yr since it is on top (4DEN is on top of 3DEN which is on top of 2DEN which is on top of DEN).... And each of their "little brown circle thingies" covers up completely the one below it.Sorry for the overly emphatic lecture, guys. :-shy :-wave Steve :-outta
January 7, 200323 yr Maybe we're talking about different things. It sounds like you're trying to create a flight plan in FSnav but are unable to get KCLT into the flight plan by selecting it from the map view. We understand that. What I suggested is that you not use the map view but use the input box instead. What happens if you try that?Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]MyTraffic/Radar Contact/FSMeteo/FSSE/FSassist/FDCHorizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html
January 7, 200323 yr Did that -- didn't work. That's when I was cleared to Charlotte! I spent 2-1/2 hours trying to get my flight set up to STL and finally just went back to the default airports (see above). I believe that this is a FSNav issue and certainly not a RC one.Steve
January 7, 200323 yr That's weird. I'm wondering if the scenery you installed changed something critical in the base airport overlay. Maybe it removed the runways or com frequencies. If you have afcad you should be able to check this.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]MyTraffic/Radar Contact/FSMeteo/FSSE/FSassist/FDCHorizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html
January 7, 200323 yr Sidney, Didn't install any 3rd party CLT scenery. AFCAD only changes the parking spots and taxiing for AI aircraft. The AFCAD I loaded was for the default CLT scenery. Now, there are some AFCAD files that are made for 3rd party scenery packages -- like the CLE/2CLE scenery I have/had. I was using it and Bill Grabowski's ERJ panel & Nick Botamer's COA ERJ when this happened: Had saved a COExp a/c at Gate D-4 of the add on scenery. Loaded it up, loaded FSMeteoe, went to RC3 and prepared my flight. As soon as I loaded RC3 and went back to my flight I was at 250 kts and 1 ft agl...... (See previous post from last month). This continued to happen so I gave up flying out of CLE; but after I eliminated the 2CLE AFCAD file (loaded up only CLE in the AFCAD program), I could load my flight at D-4 normally and nothing wierd happened. I'm telling you, these AFCAD files are causing wierd things to happen......:-spacecraft Steve
January 7, 200323 yr Steve,Let me see if I understand this. You do not click on anything on the map, but you do enter "KCLT" in the input box, then right-click on "Airport KCLT" and add to plan. Then you move it to the top of the list. So you have KCLT as the very first item in the list, with no 2CLT, or anything other than normal waypoints and your destination airport, and RC clears you to fly to KCLT?RC can't do that. If you have KCLT as your first item, that's always the Departure airport. What I'm thinking is that you are adding KCLT to the list, but not moving it to the top of the list. You also need to remember to delete 2CLT from the list. Then save and re-export to FS200x.
January 7, 200323 yr Scott, I actually did that. I somehow managed to get KCLT back to the top of the flightplan. I saved it and exported it to FS2002. Minimized FS then went to RC. I thought I had it licked.......However, on the RC screen, there was no departure airport listed. I even rebooted and tried it again. Same thing. The only thing that corrected the problem was to restore all of my airports in AFCAD, re-run the FSNav4.5 DBC, then reboot. After all that, I got RC to load properly. I then flew on to KSTL. All that took me about 2 hours......Steve
January 7, 200323 yr Author That's right It won't work that way either. I tried typing KPHL directly into fsnav and it still showed up as 1PHL with no deparure info in RC. I tried creating plan using Fltsim planner and the same thing happens. This is from my main KPHL airport.Bill MAlso JD I emailed you my modified a and r files. January 8, 200323 yr >The only thing that corrected >the problem was to restore all of my airports in AFCAD, >re-run the FSNav4.5 DBC, then reboot. If you have these overlays installed and you run the fsnav dbc, do they show up on the list of the scenery files to be scanned? If they do you can try unchecking them before running dbc. I'll bet you already thought of that, though. :)Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]MyTraffic/Radar Contact/FSMeteo/FSSE/FSassist/FDCHorizon Flights--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.html
January 8, 200323 yr The AFCAD files and overlays are not sceneries. They don't show up in the scenery listing anywhere. They actually change the .bgl file that shows up only in FSNav and other navigation programs. They're used primarily to allow AI a/c to have a start point and taxi via the taxiways to the runways. Different thing completely from the scenery...Steve
January 9, 200323 yr Steve and Bigmack,I have multiple airports with overlays and even my home airport of Denver International with a radius AFCAD setup, really cool. What I seem to gleen from all these notes is this. Using FSNav, I use the graphical interface to go to any airport in the world. Click on the brown spot and add it to my flight plan, for example KDEN. When I click on the dot, it does NOT care how many 1den, 2den etc I have, the base airport is KDEN. That will always be my in this case, departure airport. Let for the sake of this example say I am going to KORD (Chicago Ohare). Then I move to that airport and click on the dot for KORD and put that as my destination. I then use the auto route function of FSNav to create the flight plan.No where in this example does it care if I have overlays, it NEVER sees any of them. I am totally confused why FSNav would see any of the AFCAD overlay features. The only time this could be a problem and SUBS and I found this out: BIG POINTIf the overlays have the EXACT same coordidantes as the base airport then they will change the base. You must make a very small change of each overlay coordidnate to make sure that it is not the same as the base. I change the lat/log of each overlay by a single digit of the sec position. For example if the base airport is 45-45-10 the next overlay will be 45-45-11. That way I NEVER have a conflict.Let me know if you want us to go modify your overlays and that should clear this problem up.CheersBob Johnson
January 9, 200323 yr Wouldn't that cause your AI a/c to be positioned/taxi out of position? Your solution may work well if you're using AI a/c a lot (I'm not as the frame rate hit I take is horrible) but, from my experience noted above) FSNav4.5 will pile up the overlays on top of the base and won't let you see the base at all; i.e., 4DEN was covering 3DEN which was covering 2DEN which was covering DEN. I could not get DEN to click onto my flightplan in FSNav. By moving the last digit of the latitude or longitude 1 digit wouldn't, say, 4DEN cover up like 98% of 3DEN, etc, etc? I'm getting confused. It was much easier for me to just revert all the airports and look for AFCAD files that only had 1 layer since I don't use the AI a/c. Someday, when I upgrade my box to a 3GHz+ model I may use your solution. For now, with my 900MHz AMD, I'll just use the single layers and fly alone. :-( Bummer.Steve KCLE
January 9, 200323 yr I know exactly what you mean. Before I got Radar Contact, I tried to create and export a flight plan to .pln and I had the same problem. I couldn't get KEWR. Only 3EWR. So I never bothered to create a flight plan. Eventually, I removed all overlays because they were using different frequencies.....and I couldn't figure out how to get unto the different ones....and a whole range of other issues. Now, with the new method of using RAFCAD, this problem should disappear. I am just getting into it, and it takes a bit of practice to get it right.......not to mention time to set up all your airports properly, but IMHO, I think its better than using overlays. And with RAFCAD, there is only one airport. So flightplanning should not be a problem.Lagaz.
February 10, 200323 yr OK guys, I'm not even a RC user, but I think I might know what the problem is. I also think you already thought this, but just in case you don't here it is. First, restore all your airports in AFCAD but keep a backup of your overlays so you can re-install them later.Second, run the FSNav's DBC so it will re-generate the database WITHOUT overlays. Then re-install the overlays but DO NOT run the FSNav's DBC again, in that way FSNav will not recognize any overlay in your system.Hope this helps,Carlos.
