January 6, 200323 yr Is there a way to get RC to recognize overlay airports as the main airports? January 6, 200323 yr Commercial Member how would it do that? and what would the differences be? aren't they both at the same long/lat? don't they have the same runways, with the same frequencies and headings?confused.... JD Read my blog
January 6, 200323 yr Author That's what I thought. But for some reason when I try to input an overlay airport, It's not recognized. I end up flying right pass it or when I try to use the alt Airport feature in main menu, no overlay airports come up. If I try to include overlay in Flt plan the pilot manuaaly dails a phone call to what he thinks is the airport.Bill M Bill McIntyre Asus StrixB650E-F Gamer, AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, Corsair Titanium DDR5 64GB, Samsung 990 PRO-4TB M.2, (4) 2TB SSD's, Corsair H1150i liquid cooler, RTX 2080TI Founders Edition, (2) LG 34" HD Curved Monitor, Sound Blaster Audigy X, 1Kw PC Power & Cooling Power Supply, Corsair Obsidian Full tower Case. January 7, 200323 yr Using AFCAD overlays (airports like 2CLT, 2ATL, 3ATL, etc) causes RC not to work. RC can not distinguish 2CLT from anything. I know. I tried flying from CLT to STL this Sunday and I had the AFCAD files (CLT + 2CLT) loaded into my FSNav4.5 database. When I loaded up RC, ATIS just told me the wind direction, speed, altimeter, and that's all. No runway info. So, I tried to ask for Clearance. What was I given? I was cleared to CLT!!!! :-lol :-lol Heck, I was already at the gate!My solution was to run AFCAD and restore all the original airports. I had only 5 that had multiple overlays -- IMPORTANT the last overlay, in my case 2CLT, was the only point I could start from. It completely covered up any spot to hit "CLT". Anyway, I reloaded all of my AFCAD files except the offending 5 (ATL, DEN, CLT, PHL, and DTW). For CLT, PHL, and DTW, I just loaded up the main one (CLT, PHL, and DTW). I had to search for single layer AFCAD files for DEN and ATL -- both are available.Note to AFCAD developers: Please note this and attempt to make single overlays available to Radar Contact users.:-wave Steve KCLE (blizzard central tonight!!!)
January 7, 200323 yr Commercial Member rc's data base of airports, runways, navaids, checkpoints, etc are those defined in fs2002.if you have kclt that will be found in the a.txt and r.txt filesif your airport is called 2clt, that's not going to be found in either.you could add entries to a.txt and r.txt (BE CAREFUL, BACKUP YOUR FILES, IF RC STOPS WORKING AFTER YOUR CHANGES, RESTORE YOUR FILES :-))i think there is post here on how to do this. search for a.txt JD Read my blog
January 7, 200323 yr Author Thank you I'll give it a try. Also since I lowered all my loadup priorities RC has been working Flawlessly. Great job guys.Bill M Bill McIntyre Asus StrixB650E-F Gamer, AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, Corsair Titanium DDR5 64GB, Samsung 990 PRO-4TB M.2, (4) 2TB SSD's, Corsair H1150i liquid cooler, RTX 2080TI Founders Edition, (2) LG 34" HD Curved Monitor, Sound Blaster Audigy X, 1Kw PC Power & Cooling Power Supply, Corsair Obsidian Full tower Case. January 7, 200323 yr If I understand correctly, for the above example, when you are flightplanning, and you want to set your departure airport - you have the option of selecting either KCLT or 2CLT. If you select KCLT, there shouldn't be any problem at all. There could be 8 overlays, like the available for KORD has, but select KORD as your departure airport (not 2ORD, 3ORD, 4ORD etc) and that'll work fine. RC doesn't care how many overlays you have or even if a airport has overlays. Compleatly 2 different things, because RC has it's own database.Subs
January 7, 200323 yr Well, with FSNav4.5 you don't have a choice. You right-click on the brown circle in the middle of the airport to begin your flight plan. Problem is everywhere you click on that darned circle says "2CLT" and not "CLT". So, you would be starting at 2CLT. I couldn't get CLT to come up at all and RC couldn't get me clearance from 2CLT. I guess you would have to add 2CLT to your RC airport database like jd says but I didn't want to go there...... It didn't take me too long (about 15 minutes) to restore my airport database, run FSNav DBC, and go to AFCAD and add back the 15 or so airports I used that didn't have a number in them. (I only use them for positioning my a/c and not for AI). Steve KCLE
January 7, 200323 yr Author I tried the a and r files entries for the overlays. However it did not work. Whenever I tried to load in a overlay airport I get run time 6 error and RC shuts down. But thanks anyway for the advice. January 7, 200323 yr Hi Bigmack,Somwhere when you are in AFCAD you are replacing for example KCLT with a afcad file called 2clt and not changing the name. If 2clt is now the default afcad file for CLT it then should REPLACE KCLT with that name KCLT, nothing else.I have many overlays on multiple airports on my system, and have never seen this problem. I also use FSNAV and it does not know anything about AFCAD. The real key is to make sure that the base file is always the ICOA name for the airport in this case KCLT. If you follow this routine you should NEVER have a problem.Let us know if you have followed these procedures if not please indicate the exact details and we can help fix the problem.CheersBob Johnson

January 7, 200323 yr Using KCLT as an example, but so this with all AFCAD files.Follow Bob's suggestion and rename the overlays to replace the default scenery.Or follow Sidney's suggestion. Just enter "KCLT" in the input box of FSNav (with ID's checked). Then right-click on "Airport KCLT" from the list, then send that to the plan. Since there's no 2CLT in the real world, you need to adjust your scenery to match what names exist.
January 7, 200323 yr Oh, it will put you at CLT/2CLT. Problem is if you click on that little brown circle it will come up as 2CLT on your fp. CLT is underneath 2CLT......Steve
