July 16, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member i read four files before the splash screen appearsrcv3.dat, aircraft.dat, keyboard.dat, airspace.csvzip them up, and send them to meyou unzipped the 31 zip file, into your rcv3 directory, right? overwrote everything? no files were renamed or altered?does 3.01 (rcv3.exe) still work?jd JD Read my blog
July 16, 200322 yr Hi Pedro,What is the name of the directory where you have RC installed? Your problem sounds similar to one that I was having. On my system, if my RC directory contained any numbers the beta version would get a windows error before the splash screen came up. I renamed my directory and it has been working ever since.Hope this helps! Bryan OpalkaNoble Air - Americas Region
July 16, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member the default 3.0 directory is rcv3same for 3.1, me and every beta tester has rcv3 as our directory name. so a number in the directory name is not going to be a problem. i suspect something changed in your rcv3 setup, and you changed the directory name. the problem went away.what happens when you rename your existing (non numeric) directory to rcv3? remember to change the shortcut start up directory and the path to the .exe - shouldn't make any difference.but then again, for pedro, whatever makes it work, works for me :-) JD Read my blog
July 17, 200322 yr sorry for the delay in answering, but i only had time today to test this. i renamed the directory from 'rcv30' to 'radarcontact' et voil
July 17, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member no way :-)what is the complete path (drive letter and everything) where radarcontact is located? JD Read my blog
July 18, 200322 yr Hi JD,:-hmmm :-hmmm :-hmmm :-hmmm :-hmmm How is this for weird... I renamed my directory "rcv3" and it still worked. I then named it "rcv30" and it errored (as before). I then tried "rc30" and it worked. I then tried "test" it worked. I tried "test1" and it errored, etc.Everytime that rcv31.exe errored the directory name was a length of 5 characters. (I'm not sure if all of my tests last weekend where I had a numeric also happened to be 5 characters in length)My path is currently "D:FSrc31".Hope this helps! Bryan OpalkaNoble Air - Americas Region
July 18, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member i renamed my rcv3 directory tosupercalifragilistic_rcv3, and it still runs fine.go figure.i would like to figure this out :-)can you zip up your d:fsrc31 directory, without the winwood directory, and email me the zip file. i will load it on my machine.what os are you running?jd JD Read my blog
July 18, 200322 yr Hi JD,I will send you the files when I get home tonight. Try adding one additional character to the name of your current "rcv3" directory (ie: "rcv3x"). This will test out the 5 character pattern that I saw last night. The machine that has RC on it is running Windows2000 SP4.Bryan Bryan OpalkaNoble Air - Americas Region
