December 10, 200520 yr Howdy, Got RCv4 and the key today and started my first flight. WhenI opened ADVDSP I got the green bar as usual but no text is showingin the ADVDSP window. Help as I can't wait to get this going.
December 10, 200520 yr Hi there,Don't confuse advdisplay with the green bar that ms uses to display messages. On your menu bar in FS there should be a 'modules' option. Click that and Adv display should be one of the options in the dropdown menu.Make sure there is a tick mark against it.A seperate window should appear containing the RC text. This can be resized and placed wherever you want it.Right click on it and you will have several options (such as lock position).Hope this helps. All the best,John
December 11, 200520 yr Commercial Member for future referencehttp://www.jdtllc.com/FAQ.htm#16and this is also covered on how to set up advdisp in the quickstart guide of the manual, page 33 JD Read my blog
December 11, 200520 yr Sorry John, I didn't explain the problem better. When I open the module the Advdsp displays. All I get is a blank window with no ATCtext. Never had that problem before using RCv3.1.
December 11, 200520 yr I followed the manual instructions but have a similar problem. Be sure in the advdisp options multi-line is selected. It all changed when I went to version 2.14 of advdisp and FSUIPC 3.507, now 3.51.I do have the display text for ATC comm on. What comes up is a correctly formatted FS ATC green line for the replies. The menu stays in the adv window. If I close the green bar as instructed, then the advdisp window goes blank leaving me without menu choices although they may return after hitting a hot key. I am going to try reverting to advdisp 2.13 even though it is not recommended for the newly released FSUIPC 3.51 (which has added AI control processes that are more efficient according to the release docs). We'll see what happens later today. This seems system config specific based on other users comments.
December 11, 200520 yr Apologies for the misunderstanding and thanks, Ron, for stepping in.I've had 'multiline only' checked for so long I'd forgotten all about it. Hopefully that solves the original problem - let us know.I can't reproduce the problem you mention though, Ron, of the menus disappearing even with multiline only enabled. On my system if I enable the 'display text' option the atc messages appear in the 'green bar' leaving the RC menus intact. If I close the 'green bar' the atc text disappears, of course, but leaves the menu in the advdisplay window intact. (using advdisplay 2.14 and fsuipc 3.51).Strange.All the best,John
December 11, 200520 yr Maybe this is different scenario, but I had to make sure I loaded FS 9 with the Advdisplay module already checked and open, then went back to start Radar Contact, and the text showed up OK.Otherwise it was blankGreg Greg Clark
December 12, 200520 yr Unless I misread the manual's changes section in migrating, ATC messages are still to appear in the advdisp window just as in 3.1. So, John, you are at least seeing ATC messages as I do. jd's instructions do say to close the green window but in this scenario not if you have display ATC text option selected.
December 12, 200520 yr Thanks for the replies, When I open the module I get the green barwith some text on it and then when I open Advdsp window I have no text or menus, nothing. I have multi line checked and FSUIPC 4.5 and Advsp 2.1.3.3. When I installed the software there was a window thatsaid something about a Sys 32 file and gave me options to ignorecancel or retry. I hit the retry and the software loaded OK. Could that have something to do with it? I need my RC. Trying to decendfrom FL360 in 80nm is sort stuff you get with FS ATC.
December 12, 200520 yr OK Gentlemen, I now get the text to display in the Advdsp window.I also have to have Advdsp open before I start RC4. Never had to do this with the old program. Maybe something to look at. No big dealtho if it works this way. Cheers and thanks for all the help.
December 12, 200520 yr Hi There,Glad it's working. It would be worth geting the latest fsuipc and advdisplay from www.schiratti.com/dowson.html. Some of the recent improvements in fsuipc are particularly relevant to RC.All the best,John
December 12, 200520 yr Hi Greg,Thanks for your help in solving this. I always start FS with adv display running so hadn't seen the problem :-(All the best,John
December 12, 200520 yr Hi Ron,I think the intention in v4 was to send the menus to advdisplay and keep the atc messages in the 'green window' so that they didn't overwrite each other. I remember now, that was one reason for having 'multiline only' in advdisplay selected. So you are right, you don't close the Green window if you want to see the atc text. All the best,John
December 13, 200520 yr I thought I had it going but I was wrong. Opened the Advdsp window, loaded RC got text. Hid the window using FSUIPC hotkey F5 and lost the text. This is getting very frustating. Also I'm using FS2Crew andASVE and the sound is getting crazy, sometimes sounds like a echochamber. I have two flts without RC and now I'm ready to go back to RC3.1. I have the latest ADVDSP and FSUIPC 5.0.
