December 19, 200520 yr Just thought I'd ask if anyone has a problem with departure vectoring you to the airway after takeoff. After I takeoff if I don't find the airway myself I'm either getting scolded or just out of luck... December 19, 200520 yr Commercial Member you're either told to fly runway heading, which means there is no departure procedure in effector you were told to fly a specific heading, because of ai in the area and you didn'tor you filed a plan with a departure procedure, and you didn't turn to your first checkpoint.how far is your first checkpoint?were you told to fly runway heading, a specific heading, or no heading at all. those are the three possibilitiesjd JD Read my blog
December 19, 200520 yr Author I was cleared for takeoff and handed over to departure. That was the extent of my directions until I got to a high enough altitude and ATC decided to scold me for not flying to my first waypoint.JD I'm flying from CYYZ to KBOS. My first waypoint is KYOPS at 36.4 miles out. Departure should vector me to the first waypoint or airway when the waypoint is over 30 miles right??? Like what was mentioned in the General Forums area by Manny, it would have been nice if we could have had a hand holding option for departure guidance. I can't imagine in heavy traffic areas like KBOS or KLGA that departure lets aircraft randomly fly SIDS without closely monitoring their heading. Class Bravo airspace is closely monitored and ATC tells everyone what to do. December 19, 200520 yr Commercial Member did you get a heading from tower?maybe that heading was good enough for departure for you to stay onjd JD Read my blog
December 19, 200520 yr Author No heading was given and the route was directly behind me when taking off runway 6R. Departure should have told me to turn back to a southwesterly heading in order to intercept the airway... December 19, 200520 yr Hi Dillon,One point to be aware of. When told to 'resume own navigation' the RC controller expects you to fly direct to the next wp on your flight plan from your present position. If you just engage lnav at this point in something like the PMDG 737 it won't do that. You have to use the 'direct to' command in the FMC then engage lnav.Could be one reason you are getting scolded for being off course. All the best,John
December 19, 200520 yr Hi Dillon,You couldn't open up the .pln file you were using for this flight and paste the contents here could you so I can give it a try?If the 1st wp is 36 miles out (KLOPS not KYOPS I assume!) you should have been given a vector when you first contacted departure. If no vector was given then either you have something in the flightplan between CYYZ and KLOPS or you have manually enabled Dep Procedures on the Controller Info page of RC.All the best,John
December 19, 200520 yr Author John just setup a flight using FS9's default flight planner. Like I said above my flight is from CYYZ to KBOS. I deleted the first waypoint that was given by default because it was too close the airport. Other than that there's nothing special I've done... December 19, 200520 yr Author John what's happening to me is departure is not vectoring me to a waypoint that's 36 miles away. Let's say I'm flying DreamFleet's 727 that has no FMC, I'd be screwed on my departure... December 19, 200520 yr Hi,I just tried departing rwy 6R with a plan that started waypoint.0=CYYZ, A, N43* 40.63', W79* 37.83', +000567.59,waypoint.1=KLOPS, I, N43* 35.67', W78* 47.67', +000000.00,When lined up Tower cleared me for takeoff and told me to fly heading 075.Once I contacted departure I was told to fly heading 110.All I can suggest is that, if it happens again, check that the wp at the top of the advdisplay window is the one you expect it to be!All the best,John
December 19, 200520 yr Hi Dillon,Okay, just thought I'd mention it as one possible reason for the eventual scolding for not flying to the first wp.As I said above I tried this and the vectors were given as expected. If you still have the plan try loading it into RC and double check that, at the bottom left of the controller info page, No Dep Proc is selected. All the best,John
December 19, 200520 yr >Hi Dillon,>>When told to 'resume own navigation' the RC controller expects you to fly direct to the next wp on your flight plan from your present position.>>JohnIs that true in real life? I am a real IFR student.. and it kind of scares me sometimes if I am learning stuff here that maybe different from real life and not knowing which is purely the way sim and its add ons work vs real life ATC.Hmmmmm.It would be nice..if something is unique to RC thats different from real life, it be so marked clearly (as in "for sim only"). :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 19, 200520 yr Author John I'm at work now. What I seem to be getting from you guys is tower gives you a heading on takeoff clearance which you fly until handed over to departure... December 19, 200520 yr Commercial Member correct, unless there is no heading given (runway heading or specific heading), and that is your cue you have a DP and you should fly itjd JD Read my blog
