December 20, 200520 yr I just started playing with and learning RC4 (new user), and have a couple of questions.1) When I docked the Adv Text window, it works as described, but now when I go to change views it takes approx. 3-4 seconds for the view change and the same when going back. If I undock the window, the view change is pretty close to before usung RC -- any suggestions?2) When I started exploring my first flight, I was hearing both RC ATIS and FS9 ATIS at the same time. When I switched to ground and got my taxi clearance, I was sitting there playing & learning, but was again hearing RC controllers & AI, and FS9 controllers & AI. Again any ideas??Rick

December 20, 200520 yr Author >1) check for updated video drivers>>2) turn off ms fs atc sound under option/setting/sound and>option/settting/at for that matter too>>jdNot sure what you mean by option/setting/at! I think you mean Options/Settings/Sounds/ATC and reduce that to 0(zero) for the 1st item, but not sure about the 2nd!!!Rick
December 20, 200520 yr Author >1) check for updated video drivers>>2) turn off ms fs atc sound under option/setting/sound and>option/settting/at for that matter too>>jdI have a Nvidia Ti4600 video card and have played the driver game for 3 years and have gone back to the 45.23 drivers. These are the best all-around drivers for my card & computer. So you are saying that docking the window to the panel will cause that kind of a delay in switching views? Is there no other way to display RC's information without using the Adv window. Why couldn't a pop-up window like FS9 be used. That has never caused any problems with anyone that I know of. I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke....don't fix it"Rick
December 20, 200520 yr Commercial Member yes, options/settings/atc. turn off the sound, and disable the atcjd JD Read my blog
December 20, 200520 yr Commercial Member we found advdisp more functional. this goes back to v1 days where rc was an adventurejd JD Read my blog
December 20, 200520 yr Rick,I also dock the AVdisplay. And even more it is put on a secondary PC through MaxiVista. No delays here.Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
December 21, 200520 yr Rick,I've found that I have exactly the same problems as you. I discovered that the second issue was due to having used editvoicepack to modify the default FS9 ATC messages - restoring the original voicepack removes most of the problem, although I still hear towers requesting planes to leave the runway and the occasional ATC centre handover instruction. As for the first issue, I would love to know if anyone has a guaranteed solution to the delay in switching views when AdvDisp is docked - I'm using a Radeon X800 graphics card and I already have the latest drivers installed. The problem only happens when AdvDisp is docked - if I leave it undocked but fix the window position then I get no delay, although the AdvDisp window appears in all views. It looks like that's the approach I'm going to have to take unless anyone has any suggestions? Matthew Spedding
December 21, 200520 yr No problems with RC per se; really good in terms of an actual ATC! However there were video problems: I discovered with my first RC flight last night (PMDG 737) that when I went to start the engines I usually have the throttle quadrant open with the main panel so I can see when to open the fuel levers. I moved the throttle quad around for re-positioning and the whole panel display went distorted for about 4 seconds with AdvDis open. Looking at side views is ok, but I do get some flashing when I do that. Finally, when I went to shut down FS I got a blank screen. Hitting CTRL-ALT-Del to bring up the task manager restored everything. ADvdisp definitely seems to be doing some strange things video-wise. Nvidia 256 MB card with drivers about 6 months old. Mike
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Mike,Not an ideal suggestion I know but one that may help. In the fsuipc settings, under hotkeys, you can assign a key to toggle the advdisplay window on/off.If you toggle it off before changing views it might help.A second monitor is my preferred solution - I hate playing with video drivers and settings! All the best,John
December 21, 200520 yr I've been hinting about how I need to get rid of my old analog CH yoke and pedals and get a USB version, and now you want me to tell my wife I need another monitor also?? :-eek I really don't have a death wish! Wish there was a good solution to this issue; it's really the only disappointment with RC for me. Mike
December 21, 200520 yr Hi Mike,I sympathize. My wife fails to appreciate the vital importance of a new set of rudder pedals to replace my ageing and unreliable ones. Seems to feel that if I suddenly swerve off the runway it really doesn't matter and won't make tomorrows headlines :-(Sorry I haven't any better suggestions for solving the view problems. All the best,John
