February 21, 200719 yr Every now and then, I have ATC yelling at me because I missed my crossing restriction. I never knew what this meant but I think I figured it out. When the Controller says, "Descend and maintain FL120. Start down now please, I need you level in 30 miles or less," I don't really know if me meant 30 miles from the airport or from where he issued the order. I'm guessing it's 30 miles from where he issued the order. So if I'm not at FL120 30 miles from where he gave the order, is that when I get a missed crossing restriction?Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg Ryan Gamurot

February 21, 200719 yr Hello, Ryan:If you are flying an FMC aircraft use the FIX page to place a 40 nm range mark around the destination airport (not a hard fix -- just LSK the airport ID into the blank fix name field from the scratchpad -- you can get it into the scratchpad by LSKing the destination from your LEGS page. Then type /40 into the the scratchpad and LSK into the next field down on the FIX page. This will establish a green dashed range circle of 40 nm radius around the airport on the ND. As you descend you can adjust speed and V/S watching the predictive descent arcs so they meet or end just before the range ring. This is quicker then creating a hard radial/distance fix with an altitude restriction to end up on the LEGS page.
February 22, 200719 yr Author Thanks JD and Ron. Luckily I always fly an FMC equipped aircraft so I shouldn't be missing any more crossing restrictions!Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg Ryan Gamurot

February 11, 200917 yr Another question Is there any way to change a crossing restriction? ATC is testing STROS4 and its at 9000 or 10000 according what they feel like saying for that flight.

I use the Wilco/Feelthere A320 and I sometimes miss the crossing restriction. It's very hard to see where my glidepath takes me in this plane.Regards Thorbj Thor
