  1. I agree with Geofa. I am using Vista with FSX and it's never been better. When I turn on the FPS counter the numbers are usually in the low teens on the tarmac and in the high teens when in the air. Yet, the sim is always very smooth. I have a modest system by today's standards (2Gib RAM, Radeon X1300 512MB, 3GHz PC). My FPS is hard coded at 20. I never need more than that.I remember some add-on scenery packages in FS9 that would reduce my FPS to mid-twentys with mid-thirties in the air and still I would have stutters near the airport.I will gladly trade FPS numbers for smooth flight any day.Regards,
  2. Ditto for me. The .cab files are in the gauges folder. However, I am able to switch to the VC panel. Very odd. I've checked several things in the panel.cfg and the aircraft.cfg and have not come up with a solution. I really would like to fly this aircraft in FSX. It's one of my all time favorites. Thanks to everyone.

  6. The Triden Autopilot guages and install application really look great. Has anyone tried the installer in FSX? I downloaded but am a bit affraid to try it with FSX. FSX is working quite well with Vista Ultimate.Has anyone used this product at all? http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=tridenThanks,
  7. Good point Jose. Windows Vista has basic drivers for my Creative sound card. With WinXP I had simular problems with the Creative drivers taking up so much proc time intermittently.Well, here are the screenshots showing my frame rates using FSX with Vista Ultimate. I now see why others are concerned with the frame rate results. My target FPS was locked at the default 20fps. During taxi and regular flight my fps would fluctuate between a low of 5fps and a high of 14-15 fps. Very rarely would I experience the slightest pause or lack of smoothness. Even at a steady 11fps the sim was smooth as silk and transitions in scenery while turning was smooth with an occassional pause. I was really pleased with my short test flight. I expect my fps to increase to the 20fps locked setting with a few tweaks such as the fiberframe setting and deleting the default autogen .xml.I think the focus on fps is not the key to smooth flight. I'm not sure what's at play here but I will look closer later. So, I did a completely fresh install of Windows Vista Ultimate (thanks Mike T for the heads up about MSDN) on my PC (3GHz H/T, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1300 PCI-E/512MB, ATI Beta Vista Drivers). The only application installed was Office 2007. I then installed FSX and after activation flew the following flight without a single modification to the sim.The following screens are from a short touch-and-go flight at KSAT, my home base.Takeoff cockpit viewhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162026.jpgTakeoff locked spot viewhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162027.jpgWheels uphttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162028.jpgRollouthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162029.jpgHeaded downtownhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162030.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162031.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162032.jpgShort Finalhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162033.jpgThreshold in sighthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162034.jpgTouchdownhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162035.jpg
  8. >what you guys going on about - link here -and from there ->link to buy it>>http://mytraffic2004.com/mtx/>>Ahhhhhh...Thank you Buckster. I can rest easy now. And it's downloadable too. Sweeeet.Take care,
  9. Thanks Geof. You just convinced me to get off the fence as well. I have been listening to other raves for some time but just wasn't quite sure.Regards,
  10. I'll try to get a few screenies up tonight when I get home. I'm at work right now. However, I don't think that frame rate counts will prove anything one way or another. If I get 30fps using FSX/WinXP with constant slide show but only 20fps with smooth flight using FSX/Vista, what does that prove?Still, it will be interesting to see what the counts are. I'll give more detail about my settings and hardware as well. You guys and gals have a nice day.
  11. I thought I saw an advert here at AVSIM for the new My Traffic X last night. If not then I must be working too hard and staying up too late and beginning to imagine things. This version is supposed to work with many of FSX's features such as AI planes using docking gates, airport service trucks, etc.Anyone heard of this?
  12. Hi Kayann.I also had many problems and poor performance with Vista RC2. Not so with the retail release. Seems Microsoft has tweaked a few things since then.As for Aero it is automatically turned off by Vista when you attempt to run FSX or any other graphic intensive app. When you exit FSX it automagically returns.Hope this helps,
  13. Hi Gary.I am also a developer and have access to MSDN through my company. I didn't know they released the entire retail version through MSDN. I was using Software Assurance which only has Business and Enterprise versions avialable.I just logged into MSDN and sure enough there is a single download that includes all seven versions of the retail Vista. At first I couldn't find the license key but it was also there. Thanks for the tip. I would have never looked on MSDN for it. If the date is correct it has been there since the 17th of this month.Downloading now. Thanks!Anyway, I will run FSX with Ultimate as soon as I get back home and report back here soon. All PC's at home are networked through AD. Do you know if turning off UAC will affect AD access? Thanks,
  14. Hi Mike T.I don't have figures from FS9 as I'm firmly planted in Vista so I can't give accurate data. Sorry. Once I moved to Vista I was able to install FSX with the default settings only and it ran very smoothly compared to my experience running FSX on XP.I'll get figures from FSX on Vista shortly and post them here. As for my system specs:Vista Business2GB RAM3GHz H/TATI Radeon X1300/512MB PCI-EI'm not using ReadyBoost as I don't have a compatible USB drive. I'm not sure it would make a difference with FSX. Are you seeing improvements with ReadyBoost using FSX? I've talked to others that couldn't get the OCX 2MB USB Drives to work with ReadyBoost. Anything special you are doing to get it to work? Also, what type or version of Vista RTM are you using? Thanks,
  15. Thanks Smarti.I didn't have to search as I am well aware of others running FSX on the beta Vista. I am a regular here.I too have been running/testing FSX on Vista betas since its release. Here I am only pointing out my perceived performance gains running FSX on the just released Business/Enterprise version of Vista. Also, I am not aware of other reports about DEP? Have you ran into this during your testing with FSX and Vista? If so, have you found a way around it?I'm sure there will be other small and different issues when the retail enhanced version comes out in Jan.Just sharing my experience with others.Take care,
  16. Thanks for the reply Ron. It is very difficult to fly without the Cirrus G22. It is a must have for me. I have just about every plane your company has produced - really top notch.I'm in no hurry with FSX on Vista. I'll wait patiently until all the add-ons catch up. I know expected Vista to be a challenge coming on the heels of FSX.Hats off to Eaglesoft for pushing envelope.Take care,
  17. Through Microsoft's Software Assurance I have received a copy of the Business and Enterprise retail version of Vista.FSX runs very smoothly on Vista and dx10 without any of the tweaks I had to apply to get it to work with XP and dx9. Of course this is not the same version that will be specifically designed for the games platform due out Jan 30th. Still, I am very pleased that it works without tweaking.I have installed two of my favorite planes and ran into problems with both of them. The Flight1 Cessna172 installed flawlessly with everything working as far as I can tell. One major problem is with the flight model in that I can't get the plane to settle down using elevator trim. It pitches up even with very little power and the elevator trim in neutral. Eaglesoft's Cirrus G22 installs okay but kills FSX when loaded either at startup or after startup with the default Cessna. The error says FSX was shutdown to protect it via the DEP security feature(Data Execution Prevntion). This feature can be turned off for some executables, unfortunately not for fsx.exe.I expect add-on vendors will once again have to test and re-release Vista versions just as they did for FSX.Still, FSX is running better than ever with very few pauses using increased graphic setting such as water, vehicles and autogen. I had to resort to many small tweaks to get this level of smoothness when running FSX on XP Pro.Regards,
  18. If you have been experiencing CTD events and system reboots when using add-on aircraft try the following:1. Install the latest DirectX updates: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx2. If you have a PCI or PCI-E graphics adapter disable the DirectX AGP Texture Acceleration using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (start>run dxdiag)3. Reduce DirectX Sound Acceleration values: i.e., No Acceleration; Basic Acceleration; Standard Acceleration, Full AccelerationMy Experience:I have finally gotten past the Activation and Re-installation nightmare with FSX thanks to the wonderful fix/tool Microsoft has provided. My next hurdle with FSX was tweaking it to run smoothly. I accomplished this and really enjoy flying the default GA aircraft. I then moved on to adding a couple of add-on aircraft and immediately started experiencing CTD's and system reboots when using these add-ons. I heard others were having the same problems and it was suggested that the video drivers were the culprit. This didn't make sense as the video cards and drivers in question were Nvidia-based. My card is an ATI X1300. Why were different cards and different video drivers exhibiting the exact same symptoms. The add-ons were causing CTD events and system reboots consistently when switching from Spot View to 2D Panel View. I have tried updating and later removing my Saitek X45 drivers and the joystick itself without success. I have removed the sound card drivers and then the sound card without success. I used MEMStatus and other tools to rule out memory leaks associated with add-on aircraft such as the Eaglesoft Liberty, Cirrus and Flight1's Cessna, all designed for FSX.Well, I am now CTD free after making DirectX changes and applying the latest DirectX updates. I hope my experience helps others.Tonight I was able to complete a long distance cross-country flight in the Cirrus SR22 G2 from Eaglesoft. I can now switch back and forth between all views and VC without a single problem. I am just now beginning to enjoy flying in FSX as I did in FS9.Regards,

  20. What gives? I keep getting a security error when entering the letters in the security block.
  21. Well put Paul. Let's hope there is an answer soon. I can't imagine waiting weeks for a fix. i don't want to reinstall either. I'll just camp out here waiting for an answer.Regards,
