  1. Works fine for me - using a MS Sidewinder Joystick. But that is in the VC - apparently it is meant to be flown from the VC and some 2D gauges dont work. Perhaps that is what you have found in the "throtle quadrant window" Barry
  2. What would the realistically shortest airstrip that a real life pilot would put one of these into - I know a lot depends on pressure altitude.Barry
  3. Some of my a/c have a kind of "sound coming down a hollow tube " effect - I recall that when I purchased the Dreamfleet C310 , it had this and they issued a new sound file that fixed the problem.Does anybody know what causes this? Thanks Barry
  4. I have searched eveywhere - so I don't believe there is one. I have been reading and working through the manual and checklists - but am finding it hardgoing. This is a brilliant freeware a/c - it really has a "feel" about it - the quality of the VC and sound package alone are enough for me to place it is the "must have " category. I have managed to start it and get it off the ground - but would love a bit of assistance in the form of a flight tutorial. Anybody know of anything around??Thanks Barry
  5. Thanks for that heads-up GeorgeI have had David's Tridents and BAC 1-11's (together with Rick Pipers HS748) on my hardrive for a long time - but being mainly a GA flyer until now, they have remained unused. I have just started to investigate the HS748 and realised how good it really is. I anticipate that Davids a/c are equally as good. I feel that I have largely exhausted the GA scene in FS9 and am ready to move onto larger a/c - so will keep an eye out for the Comet. I am not too keen on glass cockpits myself.Barry
  6. Before I built a new computer with a complete re-install of FS9, I had a FS9 utility which placed a DLL inside the FS9 folder (I think) - this DLL tracked your a/c and placed the tower view at the airfield closest to your a/c while flying. This meant that when you arrived at your destination , you had a tower view relevant to that airfield.Any ideas of the name of this utility? Thanks Barry
  7. There appears to be so many of these addons to improve the flight and/or ground textures, that it is difficult to know what to settle on. I have a faster computer now and have decided to stick with FS9 (it's apparently still not fast enough for FSx) - so I am looking for differnt flight and ground textures. I have seen many freeware and payware ones.So what are your opinions - and specifally , what is the difference between Activesky Graphics and Flight Environment? Thanks Barry
  8. I have been rebuilding my computer using all the old parts except for a new MOBO ASROCK 4coredual -VSTA and new Core2Duo E6600. I just turned on the machine for the first time - expecting it to possibly burst into smoke and flames, but most probably to attempt to boot up off my old Hdd which has WindowsXp installed and then to tell me to go away.BUT it booted into Windows!!!!!!It wasn't too happy because it started saying that it had found new hardware and wanted to install drivers - so I quickly turned it off. I had intended to re-format the Hdd and reinstall everything. But -- I have never experienced this before and have always re-formatted and re-installed everything. What do I do now?? Where do I start? I guess that I could install the motherboard drivers that came with the MOBO and see how it all makes out? It would be much easier than reinstalling everything.Any advice pleaseBarry
  9. I have built a couple of machines over the years - and find that they all have their little idiosynchrasies. My last machine was an AMDxp 2400. With that one it was quite difficult to install the cpu heatsink. The cpu slid into the "frictionless" base holder easily - but to attach the heatsink you had to connect a steel spring to one side of the cpu base and then very carefully push the other side down with a screwdriver. One slip and you could push the screwdriver through the motherboard. So with that machine, despite the recomendations to install the motherbard into the case first and then install the cpu/heatsink - it was far easier to install them onto the motherboard first before placing the MOBO into the case. Now the first thing I notice with this new Intel E6600 Core2duo is that the cpu/heatsink combination is MASSIVE. I nearly fell over when I opened the box. So what do you recommend - installing it all onto the MOBO first - or install the MOBO into the case first? Thanks for any help from those who have installed one.Barry

  11. This ATI Catalyst drivers guide http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html refers to the latest Version 7.6 Catalyst drivers and the Catalyst Control Centre.I know that I have upgraded driver in the past - but dn't know what version I currently have. When I look in my control panel, I seem to have driver version snumbers thta are differnt to 7.6.Can anybody offer some advice please? Thanks Barry
  12. Yes - but only if you update the FMC database with the nav data from this website (at a small cost) http://www.navdata.at/The PSS Dash8 is a good aircraft - for it's age. It would be very, very good if PSS updated it - especially in regard to the quality of it's VC. It is "OK" now - but is not fully functional. The DASH8 was originally designed for FS2002.Barry
  13. >I think having only 1GB of RAM is a limiting factor on that>system.I believe that this is not true - provided that you don't have any memory leakage, if you CTRL-ALT DEL, you will see that FS2004 with WindowsXP never uses more than around 700 meg of RAM. Certainly, FSx needs more than 1 Gig of RAM - but FS2004 does not. Barry
  14. I'm really enjoying learning how to fly this a/c. On one hand it is quite an easy a/c to fly - but on the other, you can get into trouble quickly with it.So far, I can land it (at 40,000lbs) in 2000 feet. I have read that it is possible to land it in half this distance - if so, I would love some pointers. Possibly I am coming in a little too fast - but below 100 knots on final approach, I tend to get into trouble. I haven't tried using the spoilers on approach yet - anybody tried that? At what stage of the approach would they be used? Thanks Barry
  15. >Open the file in Imagetool, on the right it says "Mip Levels".. if it >says 1 then it doesn't have any, a large number (I think 11) then it >does Thanks for this info - just what I was looking for.Barry
  16. Is there any way that I can see whether a texture file has been saved with MIPS or NO MIPS? The programme DXTBMP allows you to select whether you wnat to save the file either way - but how do you tell if a file has in fact been saved with MIPS.THanks for any adviceBarry
  17. There have been 2 releases of this a/c - one for FS2004 and the other for FS2002. I don't think that the FS2004 version is available at AVSIM. You can get it at Sim-outhouse.comBarry
  18. Hi allWhat new addon payware a/c are available for FSx? I don't mean a/c that were designed a couple of years ago for FS9 and ported across to FSx - but totally new ones? Thanks Barry
  19. Since I installed a newer ATI vid card into my old machine, I had to install the ATI Catalyst Control Centre (as part of the driver installation). This Control panel also requires the Mocrosoft .NET framework to operate. The control centre itself has a very large footprint - much larger that the old Catalyst drivers had - and also I occasionally have problems with the .NET framework When shutting my machine down, I sometimes get an error messsage that says the machine is waiting for some .NET application to close. looking this error message up on the Internet shows that many people have the same problem Also sometimes, when I change a setting in the control panel, it somehow fails to take effect - these past 2 days I have been without AA, but it has now magically taken effect. The point of this post is that I want to build a new machine and want to use an ATI vid card - but not the Catalyst Control Centre. Is the Control Centre "buggy"? Is there another way??Thanks for any helpBarry
  20. Hi allI can't seem to get my assigned keyboard control to work in the new C150L.Mouse control of the VC electric flaps switch works - and the "flaps up" keyboard assignment works - but the "flaps down" keyboard assignment won't work.Any others with this small problem? Thanks Barry
  21. AlvegaIt is a totally useless thread - you needn't waste your very important time to read it. of course, I suppose we underlings, whose time is much less important than yours could provide you with a resume of the contents of the thread - BUT I DONT THINK SO!!Barry
  22. Hi ChristianThe screenshots on your website are awesome!! -- what mesh are you using? - especially for the Grand Canyon shots. Thanks Barry
  23. This is looking VERY interesting - please, for those who have this working -- how about some screenshots in the screenshots forum. Thanks Barry
