  1. I have quite a few scenery addons -- set in different parts of the world. Are there any significant, noticeable benefits to de-selecting those addons in areas of the world that I am not flying today?? Perhaps the Sim loads faster - but that would be counteracted by the time involved in selecting/deselecting the different areas. Then again - Confucious says - What does man do with 1/10th of second saved in 100 metre race?Barry
  2. I can't find where the option "use this scenery directly " is -- any help please?Barry
  3. Yesterday, I was flying the Flight1 C172 and the outside air temp gauge was indicating -1C -- nothing untoward was happening but I turned on pitot heating anyway - can't say that I noticed anything happening with the a/c or the panel.Barry
  4. Thanks for that advice, Lou. I will see what I can do.As an interesting aside, I am wondering what a real life buyer of a Cessna outside of the US ( you know, places like Australia, Canada, South America) do when they wish to purchase a new a/c -- ADF's are still very much a feature of the landscape in these places. I guess the answer is probably this - anybody who can afford a new a/c can simply order any navigational addon that they wish. So the "standard" panel would surely be fairly basic and would be "modded" according to wherever the a/c is to be operated. Thanks and regards Barry
  5. For some strange reason, the Flight1 Cessna172 has an ADF gauge in the 2D panel - not actually incorporated into the panel but as a "pop-up".But it has no ADF gauge in the VC. I have added the same gauge as that used in the 2d panel into the VC -- but unfortunately it is not backlit at night like the ret of the VC gauges. Does anybody know of a suitable backlit gauge that could be used. Please don't ask me to ask this question on the Flight1 forum as they consider there that the C172 is perfect in all regards and accept no criticism - either positive or negative. Thanks Barry
  6. I don't know -- I was "tinkering" yesterday and when I started up the Sim today, I got this error message - and the file was gone!I have replaced it with the original from the CD ( even though I have updated to FS9.1) and everything seems to be running OK.Barry
  7. Hmm-- that is the same version number as the file I just took off the original disk.Barry
  8. I have somehow lost my file GPS_EXPORT.DLL from the Modules directory. I know that I can get the original version of the original FS20)4 disk -- but now that I am updated to FS 9.1, I am wondering if I need an updated verion of this DllIf somebody who has updated FS9 could send the file to wardB3(at)TPG.COM.AU - I would much appreciate it.Thanks Barry
  9. I have this problem that , when I see screenshots of many a/c VC panels, they appear really clear and look great. When I get the a/c , my VCs are OK - but not as clear. I have a Geforce 4 TI 4200 with 128 meg RAM -- not the greatest and latest, I know - but I am wondering if there is anything I can do. I usually run FS on a 17" screen at 1024x768.Thanks Barry
  10. G'day MiltomThanks a bunch for ANOTHER wonderful a/c. It's a beauty.I have noticed that the 2 Hobbs meters HOBBS1 and HOBBS2 seem to be missing from the download - or maybe I have missed something? Thanks againBarry
  11. Ah-HA!! That was what I was looking for! So much better than the default style panel lighting. Any others?Barry
  12. I am looking for an a/c that features a full complement of backlit gauges - can anybody please advise? Thanks Barry
  13. Perhaps some of these things are not able to be done in FS . I do know that there are some a/c that if you mishandle the engines , then they fail. The Widget is an example. I don't know how it is done though. I have always been perturbed that most piston a/c checklists call for fuel pumps to be turned on before start and for primers to be pumped -- but the a/c startup anyway regardless of whether you follow the checklist or not. Certainly more realism in the way in which a/c must be flown would be a good thing. I have always believed that a/c in FS are too easy to fly.Barry
  14. Can FS Panel Studio be used in any way to modify VC panels/gauges. I can't find any reference to VCs in any posts about FS Panel Studio. Thanks Barry
  15. I started to enjoy flying on Avsims "Bushnet" - but I was having so much trouble connecting at some times that I lost interest. Sometimes I could connect with no trouble at all - at other times for reasons unknown, I would get a "couldn't connect" message. I received all kinds of advice in the forums regarding this - but the end result was that it seems to be some sort of "combination" of just who is online at some particular time that determines whether I can connect or not.Barry
  16. >During the cruise phase, by pulling the prop control out, the>prop will become coarser, which is like changing to higher>gears. Compared to a fixed prop that's in the middle of>takeoff & cruise pitches, the C/S will allow higher cruise>speeds. Do any/many FS a/c exhibit this behaviour? I only know of one - the Frolov Dash8 which quite definitely slows down on approach when you set the props to "fine" -- well actually , it's called the "condition lever" or something. :) But the behaviour as you state is very noticeable. I have just tried it on a couple of piston a/c and it seems to make no difference . For example, the Dreamfleet C310 - when I fly it I set the props and throttles according to the various phases of flight - but at cruise , different settings of the props rpm makes no difference to cruise speed.Barry
  17. >"Simply put, my elevator is just too loosy-goosy. How do I>tighten it up ?">>>I find with many aircraft, I have to tune the>elevator_effectiveness. Not due to any fault in their FDE's,>but due to the controller I use being a bit sensitive to begin>with. Also, the amount of elevator trim control you get with just one "click" is different when you use the keyboard assignment than it is when you use a button on your joystick. Eg with my joystick , I get twice the amount of change in elevator trim with just one "click" than I do with just one "press" of the keyboard.Barry
  18. I have read so much conflicting ideas on where /how to install mesh in FS2004, I am now looking for definitive advice from users in this forum. Mostly I want to install 38m and 76 m meshI have read that it should be installed in the fs9/scenery/world/scenery folder or the fs9/scenery/base/scenery folder or the fs9/addonscenery/scenery folder or in a separate folder of its own and then activated inside the Sim Help!!!Thanks Barry
  19. I wnat to really try myself out using the Antonov AN14 -- it is claimed that it can be landed in less than 400 feet, but I can't find a short runway anywhere.I have landed it in what appears to be a very short distance - but it is deceiving in the Sim.Thanks Barry
  20. I have always been able to fly with piston engined a/c reasonably well -- using a combination of power and attitude to maintain the final glideslope. But turboprops are my downfall. I can never seem to get the final approach right. It seems to me that in turboprops , it is essential to have a fairly constant power on approach because of the delay in spooling the engines up or down -- but a constant power on approach gets me into trouble. How do others fly turboprops on final?Regards Barry
  21. > you could for>example double it to 54,000 thereby effectively doubling the>braking power.>>The problem of course is that on landing, if you use the>keyboard or a trigger for the brakes, applying braking will>cause the aircraft to stop in twice the distance. Hi PaulI am a bit confused about this -- how does doubling the braking power effectively double the stopping distance - shouldn't that read "halves the stopping distance" ?Regards Barry
  22. One freeware programme that I find very useful to "modify" bit maps in GAU files is called "Resource Hacker" - found here http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/ I use it to unpack a bitmap out of a GAU file and then modify it using a graphics programme - Resource Hacker then lets me pack it all back up again. I commonly place some indentifying marks on some gauges - especially ASI's to give me a reminder of important speeds - like max gear down, etc. I know that this isn't probably really very true to real life - but I have so many good freeware and payware a/c that I don't get to fly some of them very regularly and I forget their important speeds.I have used it to convert the Russian writing on the cockpit gauges of the AN14 (one of my favourite STOL a/c) so that I can rememebr what each gauge does - sort of like an English conversion of a Russian panel.Barry
  23. For those unable to download this video, -- where you "click" on the graphic on the website , this will actually download a ZIP file ( around 75 megabytes) and the AVI movie file is inside the ZIP file. This is an excellent movie - and I think it showcases the "state of the Flight Sim art " as it is right now mid - 2005. It was maybe just a bit of a shame that it didn't include any GA stuff. But well done anyway!.Barry

  25. Could somebody please explain this - I kind of understand it - except why is it a lower speed ,the lighter the a/c is. I would have thought that it should be the other way around. Thanks Barry
