  1. It is interesting to see the different opinions. Suppose we should consult the FAR's or what ever the avaiation regulation is for your country you are flying in. :DAircraft Lighting Operation Lights On: landing light on in flight; private pilot test says required within 10nm of airport
  2. Does anyone use it? Is it worth while? What do you like the best about it? What do you feel is the worst about it? Saw the website, but I am just trying to get a feel for what people think of it.:DBy the way, I am only looking for constructive opinions about the product. In no way do I want to start a war of "It's the best, no your wrong it's the worst" kind of thing. I see there is a Demo, perhaps that might be a place to start for my own experience. Thanks,Kevin
  3. I use the Cougar HOTAS and don't regret it a bit. Expensive? Yes, but worth it in my opinion....:DKevin
  4. Mostly general aviation aircraft is what I like to fly (Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft). Perhaps it is what I am most used to, being a private pilot license holder. The more realistic I can make my flight sim the more I enjoy it.I have addon scenerys like Flight Environment and Ground Environment to add more beauty to the scenery. I use my real aviation approach plates and charts to navigate the FS world. My goal is to simulate my flights and IFR approaches as real as possible. If I am flying VFR, I will fly the correct proceedure to entering the pattern at an uncontrolled airport. I also monitor my speed as per the correct FAA proceedures. Call me crazy, but I even simulate the run up before takeoff. I also enjoy the airliners, both heavy and commuter. My goal with these is to replicate real world airline flights. In short my ultimate goal is to replicate real life situations, improve my flying skills and knowledge of aircraft/enroute proceedures. So far with the addons and tweaks I have made to FS9, it is a huge success. :DKevin
  5. However, I want to add my two cents in about the Project Canaries 2006! This is an awesome package. I did two flights there today with my Aeroworx King Air and LevelD 767. Great frame rates, beautiful scenery, a great way to visit the islands without going there for real. :DThe installer worked without any problems, absolutely perfect. I hope this project gets a few awards, because it deserves it! :DAgain, thank you and great work....By the way, does anyone know where I could find approach plates for the airports of this area?Kevin
  6. Now lets play nice here... Boys are not the only ones who like to play with thier toys. My flight instructor was a very nice lady and I must admit I learned more practical flying knowledge from her than the arrogant male flight instructors.... Men always out to prove something... My wife likes to interupt me when I am starting the ILS approach in stormy gails.... and I like to interupt her when Survivor is on! Lets just say, I learned my lesson...:DKevin
  7. My top ten list in no particular order:1. AI Traffic2. Clouds at high resolution full 100% as far as the eye can see3. Complication of 3rd party aircraft (systems, modeling, etc.)4. Complex Scenery5. Video Card not set up properly to what it can handle6. A fragmented Hard Drive7. A full Hard Drive8. Dupicate files (such as AFCAD or other BGLs. sometimes crashes the computer this will cause a frame rate to 0)9. 32bit textures versus DXT textures. I prefer the DXT.10.Programs running in the background. Turn everything off that you don't need. There you have it folks. I couldn't think of anything funny, but it would be great to see an equivialent to Letterman's Top Ten to FS. :DKevin
  8. My pan rate is around 1200 and frames locked at 20. Pretty smooth for me. Practically get whip lash to look out the window... :DKevin
  9. This happens every now and then at different airports, but not all airports. The grass will sometimes show through the runway textures. I would appreciate if anyone could explain this. I have included images below to show what is taking place. Thank you everyone for your answers....Kevin
  10. I have been living in Washington all my life and enjoy our Mountain! You have really captured a great likeness to it!Great work :DKevin
  11. 'BOEINNNGGGG!'"Did you hear something?" questioned the Captain. :DKevin
  12. That is awesome. There are plenty of great projects in the works for FS9, and this is definately one of them....:DThanks for the link...Kevin
  13. For a few dollars more you can go to www.flight1.com. Get the FS Environment. Since I got this my environments have never looked so good. It improves the clouds and water with fantastic results.Don't get me wrong, there are some good freewares out there that deal with water and clouds. Just search the library for these.Kevin
  14. I enjoy flying the heavies, but I don't like sitting there for hours on end watching the simulated world go by. I like simulating real flying, using real STARs, SIDs, airways, etc. that the big boys would actually fly. I don't like the 4,6,8 plus hours of sitting and watching the instruments work. I will speed up the simulation 4x or 8x to get there quicker if I choose to do a rare long haul. I rarely do them because they take so long. Plus if the simulator crashes over half way through the flight I don't feel I have wasted a lot of time.Thats my 2 cents...Kevin
  15. I have a modest computer. ATI 9500 126MB card, 1GB ram. Hard drive is cleaned and defragged regularly.I am able to run addons like Fly Tampa and Flightzone sceneries with pretty good frame rates. Plus I use the PMDG 737 and LevelD 767 with no problems.
  16. I do most of my flying in the Pacific Northwest and thought that this might be a worthy addon to improve my scenery. When I looked into it before I noticed there was no autogen scenery. However, then I looked at my settings and I don't run a lot of autogen scenery anyway. So my question(s) to all of you that own this scenery package is:What are the frame rates like? How high do you need to fly so it is not a blurry mess?I have a lot of Georender sceneries and the Fly Tampa Sea-Tac, will Mega Scenery blend seamless?Does it look odd when there is no autogen and yet there is scenery/Any other input and opinions would be very helpful in the desicsion of purchasing.Thank you everyone.Kevin
  17. Saw some picks of the real thing over at airliners.net and it is a very cool paint scheme.
  18. I like to go to www.airnav.com to get my approach plate. There is also standard arrival and standard departure plates. This is a great resource for all US airports. I have seen a thread here that lists websites that have plates for other airports around the world. The basic idea of a STAR is to get you to an IAF for the approach to the runway. I have my FMC programed for my departure from the airport to my route to the IAF, then the approach itself. It is like playing connect the dots. One fix to the next. Then if available I have a hold programed in after the approach to plan for the go around.Kevin
  19. I got it to work. I don't know why, but Robert was right. The 737's were not completely installed. They were installed, but for some reason not registered, or something. This might have had something to do with when I last cleaned my hard drive and defraged it. I have heard that sometimes when you defrag or clean a hard drive, registrations get corrupted. I don't completely understand that, but that might have been the problem. Because between the last time I flew the 737 to this time, I defraged and cleaned the hard drive.Anyway, I completely removed all files and reinstalled the 737's. Now executible texture addons work like a charm.Thank you, Robert for the help.Kevin
  20. No, I am sorry that doesn't help. I have all versions of the 737 installed. For some reason the installer will put the folder in the right place, but I get an error that says:The file C:Progam FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftPMDG737-800texturepmdg_airstairs.bmp could not be opened. The only option from there is to click OK and the installer closes out.I have downloaded the executible files multiple times and run into the same problem. Plus I have tried downloading other files from PMDG and run into the exact same error. I don't think the files are bad. I just think the files are not reading correctly, or something. I am completely stumped. Any further information on how to fix this would be great.Thank you,Kevin
  21. I have downloaded some textures from the PMDG website and they are not loading. I am getting an error message saying the airstair.bmp could not be loaded. Please assist me in figuring out how to install the textures.Thank you,Kevin
  22. That is AWESOME! Thanks for the link.Kevin
  23. Oh will Captain Sim ever recover from the bad press in the forums. I have to say there screen shots look great. Too bad I only read more pans than picks... :DKevin
  24. I have the AA turned of in FS9. I use my graphics card to edit AA and such. I did turn down the AA on the graphics card a notch and a notch down on the other (Aneospheric something or other) and this seemed to help a lot. Thanks for the tip. Once I did this the performance was much better and I didn't get the jaggies when changing views. I agree to not let any game dictate what graphic settings you use. Let the card do the work I always say.It was just a strange occurance that I recently noticed. Now we are back to normal...Thanks again,Kevin
