  1. I have started experiencing major sound distortions in FSX, I think FSX only, since I cannot reproduce it in FS9 nor in any other videos, sound clips etc. The distorted sound appears to be in addition to the engine noise
  2. Hi FMI don't know whether this is of any value to you, but I have just deleted my fsx.cfg and allowed it to rebuild, ie a default version with no tweaks. I have added back in gauges as required and AI aircraft. I have SP1 and SP2, and I think the graphics are quite a bit better than with my previous much modified fsx.cfg. There are no blurries at all, the scenery looks good. Before I was at 1280x960 16bit, and the 16bit was necessary to remove the blurries. Now I am at 1280x960 32 bit and there are no blurries so this has all been quite positive. However there is a bit of a slump in frame rates, but there was when I installed SP2 previously. I may try a tweak or two to help the fps but overall I am very pleased.NigelVancouverMy System:Intel Core2 Duo E6400Gigabyte GA 965G DS3 mobo Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950XT video card PCI-e 512MB2GB Transcend 800Mhz DDR2 RAMMaxtor 80GB 7200rpm hard driveMaxtor 200GB 7200rpm hard driveWestern Digital 250GB 7200rpm hard driveCreative Sound Blaster Live! with latest driversNEC FE950+ crt monitorCHProducts USB yoke and pedalsWindows XP Home edition with SP2DirectX 9.0©Silverstone Olympia 650W power supply with 54A on 12v single railFive case fans
  3. This is what I got off a forum, can't remember which nor the author, but you have to do these assignments in the Standard.XML file - works like a charm for me. Hope it helps.NigelVancouver**************************************************************This is what I pasted into my Standard.XML to get gear up/down functions assigned to buttons 4 and 5 respectively.- 4GEAR_UP- 5GEAR_DOWN- 6FLAPS_DECR- 7FLAPS_INCRButtons 6 and 7 should already look like this in your file.
  4. I have now decided to divest myself of FS9 and move solely to FSX. I want to port over some of the good FS9 addon airports, where this can be done. Several I have found look very good in FSX where the various textures are compatible. As an example, with the Freez Zurich I have managed to exclude the FSX default airport buildings with an XML exclude file, except for the default control tower. (I also want to convert the ISD Milan Airport, which appears to have similar issues
  5. The X1950 series are power hungry, go look at my messages at the CTD forum, you need lots of amps on the 12v railNigel
  6. I suspect your PSU is inadequate, look for my messages at the CTD forum where it is explainedNigelVancouver
  7. Do your slewing in top-down mode, then you can see where your plane is going, and using the joystick you can pull back or forward to stop heading off at high speedNigelVancouverps I have the CH yoke and pedals and do not have this problem, but if I am on someone else's computer with a joystick, then I usually have this high speed movement, which I work around using top-down view
  8. I found setting resolution to 16bit instead of 32bit makes a substantial improvement to blurries, for no apparant loss in picture qualityNigelVancouver
  9. I would bet your power supply is inadequate - go to the Sapphire forum at http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4 for discussions on this. I have a Sapphire ATI X1950XT 512MB and it calls for 30amps on the 12v rail, my previous PSU only provided 18amps on each of two 12v rails and I was gettings lots of CTD's. I now have a PSU with 54 amps on a single 12v rail and all problems have gone. New GPU's have a high amperage demand and PSU selection is becoming a lot more sophisticated, whereby the overall wattage is not necessarily the criterion.NigelVancouverMy System:Intel Core2 Duo E6400Gigabyte GA 965G DS3 mobo Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950XT video card PCI-e 512MB with Omega v3.8.421 drivers (Cat7.10)2GB Transcend 800Mhz DDR2 RAMMaxtor 80GB 7200rpm hard driveMaxtor 200GB 7200rpm hard driveWestern Digital 250GB 7200rpm hard driveCreative Sound Blaster Live! with latest driversNEC FE950+ crt monitorCHProducts USB yoke and pedalsWindows XP Home edition with SP2DirectX 9.0©Silverstone Olympia 650W power supply with 54A on the 12v single railFive case fans
  10. There is lots of info which will answer your questions at the Sapphire Site I mentioned above including models of PSU - as I said selection of a PSU today is becoming a lot more sophisticared and you have to make sure you have an adequate amperage supply at 12v to meet some specific requirements, ie GPU's which have become very power hungry (but I also think there is a trend started to make these more efficient and power requirements are reducing). A weak PSU may not be your problem but it does look suspicious.Try this site http://digg.com/hardware/Power_Supply_Calculator_2 it calculates your PSU requirements based on the hardware you have, I don't know whether it is still active, it was changing some of its criteria last time I was there.Nigel
  11. If your GPU wants 400watts, 430 watts doesn't leave much for your other hardware ie CPU, hard drives, fans etc. What is the 12v demand of your GPU and what is the 12v output from your PSU, very often the 12v supply is broken into separate "rails" and if one rail does not have the capacity to meet the demands of your GPU, then problems occur. This was my problem, my ATIX1950XT has a demand of 30amps!!! and I had two 12v rails in my 600w PSU, each giving 18amps that was where my CTD problems came from. Buying a PSU today is becoming a lot more sophisticated. Look at the CTD forum you will get more info. There is a lot of info on this if you want to get into any more detail at the Sapphire forum http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4 (I know it is for ATI cards and not Nvidia but you may get a sense of the problemsGood luckNigel
  12. Look on the AVSIM CTD forum and check your PSU, I wouldn't be surprised if it was lean at 12v; search for entries with my nameNigelVancouver
  13. Look inthe CTD forum above, there is a string on "msvcr80.dll causing problem"NigelVancouver
  14. Thx everyone for this great info, I have printed the last three messages and will study their contents. I already have CPU-Z and Prime95 (I used the latter to try and identify FSX crashing problems which came back to an inadequate 12v supply of my PSU), and I have just downloaded CoreTemp which seems to be a useful program. Once I pluck up courage and take the plunge, I will report back if my computer is still working!Nigel
  15. Hi GaryI have been following this thread with interest, particularly as your hardware is very similar to mine. I am contemplating trying some overclocking, so I presume my experience would be much the same as yours. However I am quite nervous at taking this approach and would appreciate some further advice since I think I am identifying a few
  16. FSGenesis mesh, Ultimate Terrain and Adam Mills' textures for Europe and the USA (freeware)- it all looks pretty good now.NigelVancouver
  17. MikeI have followed all the settings at the bottom of your first message and they have made a significant improvement in blurries for me, but furthermore I find that setting my display in FSX at 1280x960 16 bit instead of 32 bit, effects a further improvement. I am using the latest Omega drivers based on the Catalyst 7.10 which I have been very impressed with.Thx for your infoNigelVancouverMy System:Intel Core2 Duo E6400Gigabyte GA 965G DS3 mobo Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950XT video card PCI-e 512MB with Omega v3.8.421 drivers2GB Transcend 800Mhz DDR2 RAMMaxtor 80GB 7200rpm hard driveMaxtor 200GB 7200rpm hard driveWestern Digital 250GB 7200rpm hard driveCreative Sound Blaster Live! with latest driversNEC FE950+ crt monitorCHProducts USB yoke and pedalsWindows XP Home edition with SP2DirectX 9.0©Silverstone Olympia 650W power supply with 54A on the 12v single railFive case fans
  18. About a decade ago, Captain Bala was very active on the AVSIM and FlightSim forums. He was an Air India 747 pilot and I think he took his laptop along on his long flights. He provided great advice to simmers both on real flying issues, and on, I think it would be FS95 and/or FS98, simming issues. He also appeared quite knowledgeable on computer mattersI asked him once why he was so keen on simulation when he already flew a real one
  19. My FSX recently started to load very slow - 6-7 minutes instead of 3 minutes. Read all the messages in this string and eventually found it was caused by activating my FS9 EZ-Scenery folder in FSX. EZ-Scenery is for FS9? so I guess at this stage is not compatible with FSX - I had imported an FS9 Ednonton which required the EZ-Scenery libraries.I tried the "DisablePreload=1" command in my FSX.cfg file and it totally screwed it up - seemed to remove all the "Enter" commands and everything "glommed" together. No aircraft menu anywhere when I fired up FSX.Incidently, I can attest to the latest Cat7.10 drivers from ATI - distictly better graphics (although they were good before) but whether they have improved fps is too subjective to say.NigelVancouverMy System:Intel Core2 Duo E6400Gigabyte GA 965G DS3 mobo Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950XT video card PCI-e 512MB2GB Transcend 800Mhz DDR2 RAMMaxtor 80GB 7200rpm hard driveMaxtor 200GB 7200rpm hard driveWestern Digital 250GB 7200rpm hard driveCreative Sound Blaster Live! with latest driversNEC FE950+ crt monitorCHProducts USB yoke and pedalsWindows XP Home edition with SP2DirectX 9.0©Silverstone Olympia 650W power supply with 54A on the 12v single railFive case fans
