  1. Hi Richard, Thanks a lot for your informative post, looks good to buy. May I request a screenshot or two around Chennai, India, if its not a hassle? VOMM is the ICAO code. Cheers, Dinshaw.
  2. Dont worry, I know exactly what TAM is and where they fly. It is also very clear what I mean. The Americas comprise the lands of North and South America and their respective countries. If you go back to the post somebody alluded to countries in the "Eastern World". That is why I said "The Americas", which term means countries and their lands in the Western Hemisphere. If you are inferring that I was trying to take a potshot at a certain country in "The Americas", trust me I was not. If I were to, I would have mentioned the country by name. Besides, I did try to edit my earlier post by changing "The Americas" to Western World, and hit save changes, but for some reason it did not, obviously. I hope that is clear psolk. An 'S' after the word America can make a world of difference in meaning Dinshaw.
  3. To all the Air India and Indian Aviation bashers, looks like the Americas are following suit http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5764712/ http://www.avherald.com/h?article=46250b07&opt=0 Dinshaw.
  4. Here is a post from pprune: The inside dope. F/o on toilet break. As per SOP one C/C called in but invited to take P2 seat. Shortly after second C/c walks in , incredibly offered the P1 seat. Capt standing and teaching them how to fly a A-321 at 33000 ft. F/O comes back from toilet and all resume normal duties. Insiders say the F/O reported the matter to Flight Safety on arrival at DEL. Capt Soni and the two c/c are under suspension. Possibly the most accurate description of events. Dinshaw.
  5. @Trevor, Karan, Ro, et al Why dont you read this article first: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2279416/My-terror-27-000ft-Jet-door-blew-open-crew-plugged-gap-blankets-says-Briton.html Now follow it up with this: http://avherald.com/h?article=45dcf5b6&opt=0 Just to illustrate, the difference between tabloid reporting and Industry specific reporting. Dinshaw.
  6. @karan, while I agree with you whole heartedly on the possibility of AI "getting away" with it and the likelihood of the investigation and its findings being not all together transparent, I was only trying to make a point that lets not take the media version as the absolute truth on the chain of events. Besides, all the transgressions you have posted are not alien to other airlines all over the world. Also, your comment regarding the pilot not knowing how to make manual entries for the route mentioned earlier does not pertain to Air India. It was made by me regarding a suitability check on a European Captain who had applied to 9W for a job. So please read and understand the context before you post. I am not trying to defend what happened up there or what goes on in Air India or any other airline for that matter. I am only trying to say that media reporting, especially in popular mass media on Aviation matters is not something I give any credibility to. @trevor, if you are indeed a lawyer as your username suggests, it is extremely rich that you would rather jump to conclusions than base any opinion on facts. Not sure if that applies or flies in a courtroom. Once again, if you found the Avherald article almost as interesting as you put it as the MM version by reading between the lines, then I guess you have already made up your mind as to what has happened on AI 333. Besides, Avherald is far more credible was my point than MM or ToI. I am not trying to say or assume what took place, just basing my opinion on media reporting quality. Once again, my point is not to defend Air India. My point was dont take on face value what ToI or MM or The Sun or News Of The World and any such publication churn out, especially on Aviation Matters. Regards, Dinshaw Parakh.
  7. Folks, FYI, a far more reliable source than the MM and ToI http://avherald.com/h?article=461b7ada&opt=0 Again, let the investigation finish and results be published before we jump to any conclusions. Dinshaw
  8. Dear Psolk, The DGCA has suspended them following a safety violation is established. But what the violation is has not been specified by the DGCA. Just because the MM and ToI have come up with their story as to what happened, that is not necessarily the truth nor the reason the pilots have been suspended. Besides, suspension is based pending an inquiry. Lets wait and see what happens. That is why I say, give the benefit of doubt. I am pretty sure that there may be some underlying truth to some sort of negligence or lax behaviour by the pilots but not as grossly exaggerated by this article. Finally, innocent until proven guilty has more to do with the prosecution establishing guilt beyond reasonable doubt rather than a suspect/defendant being innocent or otherwise. Regards, Dinshaw
  9. Ro, As much as I dont condone a lot of what goes on in Indian Aviation, I would like to also take this with a bag of salt as the reporting is done by Mumbai Mirror and Times Of India. If you think that the AI pilots had such blatant disregard for safety, procedures, common sense, etc, let me tell you MM and ToI have blatantly greater disregard for the veracity of their reporting, especially in matters to do with Aviation. Until and unless the actual truth be known, let us give the AI crew "some" benefit of doubt. I will try and see if I can find out what actually happened. @@Luke M, lets not get into a debate about Eastern and Western World. I have a friend who is a TRE at 9W and when he was doing some suitability checks for a couple of European Captains on the NG simulator, he was shocked that, one of the "Captains" had no clue on how to program a route manually nor enter waypoints throughthe LEGS page. And this is just one incident. Regards, Dinshaw Parakh.
  10. Hi Srdan, Not sure if you were referring to Revolution Simproducts. Here is a link: http://www.revolution-jetstream.com/Welcome.html Cheers, Dinshaw.
  11. Hahahahahah  Thanks for the crash course in Irish names. Look forward to your tutorials and videos. Best wishes, Dinshaw.
  12. I thought so. Thanks so much Andrew for such a prompt response. I am really looking forward to the 320 family. I am sure it will be a super success Regards, Dinshaw.
  13. Thanks for all the info Ronan...exciting times ahead for sure As much as I love the NGX and marvel at how well it is made all around, one thing that is missing for me in the failure engine (at present, who knows in the future) is the lack of failures in the Flight Controls system, especially with the trailing and leading edge flaps. There is no Asymmetry skew, stuck, etc scenarios on the NGX, which may be due to limitations in FSX. I know you are under an NDA and I am not sure if you can answer this, but do you think these kind of system failures, etc will be modeled in the Bus? Cheers, Dinshaw Parakh. P.S. Completely Off-topic, but I see two characters above the O and A in your name. Does it make a difference in pronunciation, and if so, how do you pronounce your name in a good Irish way ?
  14. Hi Andrea, Since the ISA deviation is given, it is implied that the current OAT has deviated (+ or -) for the ISA temperature at that level. Therefore, there is no need to mention in ISA conditions, it is implied. You have put a very interesting question. My ball park figure is around -57C ?? Reversing the same formula as you have asked above, calculate the Mach number from the photo above ? Regards, Dinshaw Parakh.
  15. Peter, I think you are right, it is probably part of the ACARS system. But the airline does not use ACARS on its NG fleet although you can see the ACARS "options" they are not functional Dinshaw Parakh.
  16. If money is no object, highly recommend a system from Digital Storm. Extremely customizable ( to fit all types of budgets ), unmatched build quality and fabulous service. I have one for a year and it was shipped to me in India from California. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/ Regards, Dinshaw.
  17. A big turn-off are the night ground textures and water. In reality, as we all know, water is black and so is the ground unless there is a light point .
  18. Yes, got the joke But I am also wondering about the pre-flight. Will find out and revert back to you soon. Dinshaw Parakh.
  19. Yup, all those who said 340 are correct @Hans...Haahahahaha....On the ground at that speed, he should have been sitting in a hurricane shelter and not in an NG @Chris..Absolutely spot on with the calculation. Thanks all, Dinshaw Parakh.
  20. Folks, Just something for fun. I am attaching a picture that a friend of mine took recently on a flight of his. He was highlighting the strong head winds he had on the flight that day. BUt my question is, can you guys, just by looking at the photo, figure out the altitude (Flight level) he is at ? Dinshaw Parakh.
  21. Chase, Glad you liked the digital storm website. It has an uncanny knack of "drawing" you in slowly Jokes apart, I just think they give you a lot of options for systems vis a vis dell and others. From mid range to higher end machines, they have it all. I think, they also source custom components that you would like in particular that is not offered by them. Either way, whichever route you take, I wish the best for you and hope your system gives you hours of pleasure running FSX Cheers, Dinshaw.
  22. HI, I would HIGHLY recommend a Digital Storm machine. They have fabulous options, OC'ed and liquid cooled from the factory, fantastic build quality, support and mine came shipped in a crate to India in perfect condition. They have received rave reviews all over and I would not hesitate in recommending them. I have had mine for just over a year now and with Word Not Allowed's tweaks, FSX is butter smooth. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/ Now as far as financing goes, speak to them regarding options they have, if any. Dinshaw.
  23. Yes, the poster was referring to the NAV and Strobe lights will not be reflected on the ground, which PMDG have done. The landing lights though will be hard coded, just like the Airbus X earlier and PMDG. Dinshaw.
  24. Preston, F/D modes are controlled directly from the respective FCC under certain conditions. This independent F/D operation occurs when neither A/P is engaged in CMD, both F/D switches are ON and one of the following mode conditions exists: • APP mode engaged with LOC and G/S captured • GA mode engaged and below 400 feet RA • TO mode engaged and below 400 feet RA. Independent F/D operation is indicated by illumination of both MA lights. When independent operation terminates, the MA light extinguishes on the slaved side. As you can see from the above, Take Off is an FD only mode and independent FD operation. If you notice in the video, the FO F/D MA light illuminates when the Capt. presses the TOGA switch on the throttle. Also notice that LNAV is engaged around 400 feet (SOP for engaging a roll mode, although HDG SEL is annunciated on this aircraft when TOGA is pushed) and about the same time the MA light on the FO side extinguishes. Hope this makes it clear Dinshaw Parakh. P.S. Steve beat me to it
