  1. Good point, get familiar with the runway markings. That is unless you need to know for some other reason. But as far as realism and simulation goes, the runways should tell you. Now in some cases, if you're on a strip of dirt or a podunk runway that has no markings youll have an issue there.
  2. To be honest with all myflight simming community members. I have the feeling that now, the wonderful FSX product will be able to be used to its maximum potential. Why? Because as people move into newer PCs the power of their machines will be able to handle FSX better. It always seemed that a new FS would come out and the majority of simmers found themselves tweakin ini files and running on lower settings to get a smoother experience. This is the positive I take out of not getting a new MSFS, everyone will have a better crack at maxing our FSX. With all the add-ons, my goodness it seems like it will never die out.I think we are fine for a long while to come.
  3. Thanks, I checked it out.Looks like I can use his fsx benchmark Here is a quick link: http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...xutil&Go=Searchand Fraps.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  4. So, whats the reason for the demise of FLY! the simulator?I havent been up to date on the whole thing. They just stopped after II?http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  5. What do you folks that benchmark FS use for software, something like FRAPS? I usually try different things then just ctrl z and see what it says for FPS. But is there a more uniform way of doing it so you can run a more consistent test? Somehow to run the same flight, with the same views or scenery every time? This is pretty basic, but an efficient way of doing it eludes me. I've tried to search for it here, but either its not mentioned and assumed or Im just missing it. Thanks for the suggestions.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  6. You know, some times I get nostalgic and start looking up old things. One thing in particular, software. I remember the hoopla for the original FLY! and I still have that free t-shirt they gave people that bought the simulator. That was a long time ago. Yeah I just wore that t-shirt this week, its worn looking and my wife wanted to throw it out years ago but I refused to let it go. It says "I fly tri" on the back and has a Cessna on the front. I googled the old FLY! domain and the sim and there doesn't seem to be much out there. But good ole avsim has a forum for it. Thought I would take a momentary break from MSFS and be nostalgic for a moment. Reminisce. Been trying to get back into MSFS seeing that I haven't been in a real single engine in over a year (Last flight was my BFR) and with my two young boys (still in diapers) I don't know when I'll ever get back into a real plane due to time and expense. But I love my flight simming (not the config file tweaking and testing - bah!!)So I guess I'll poke around this forum and see what there is to see, maybe I'll find something of interest. Hey maybe I'll shoot over to youtube and due a search there too.Have fun FLY!rs!http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  7. Anything new to add since the service pack came out? I don't think it addressed any of this but I've been researching myself and I'm just wondering. http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  8. Great stuff, love to read about it all. Was running low on room and was searching for HD info. Running a 150 (or so) GB Raptor and running low on room. Thinking of getting a 500 GB sata for C and put the raptor on D for all flight sim stuff. But the CPU info is great. I have an e6600, and am glad to see my MB also handles quad cores if I want to upgrade in the future to a fast CPU.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  9. I gave up getting to max things out a long time ago.I recently built the following:Intel
  10. I figured it might have been. I checked the first page or two and didnt see anything mentioned. But I am not usually the first with news anyway. Regardless, just spent some time in this plane and its a gorgeous piece of work just like the commander.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  11. Not sure if this has made the rounds yet but for you AOPA members:Free to AOPA members, the virtual Cherokee Six duplicates nearly every detail of the sweepstakes airplane, including the S-Tec System Fifty-Five X autopilot

Your system is a PC of Mass Destruction. I mean you have TWO, count them TWO X1900XTX video cards. LOL... I appreciate your effort to test and report, kudos to you. Wow though, shoot if most people can swing one X1900XTX, and you have two, and still the add-ons will bring it to its knees.anyway... looks like my upgrade may still need me to sit on my hands a bit longer and build something beefier in jan/feb 2007.Thanks for the info!!http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  13. >The new DirectX 10>video cards will be available in spring of 07. Until then, you>can find plenty of Nvidia Directx 9 cards with 256 meg of ram>for under $70.I thought the DX10 cards were going to start showing themselves earlier than that. Like maybe even THIS YEAR before it ends.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  14. >That sounds great but I just dont see that much more detail>but I do see the sunken features?I use FSG on FS9. The one thing I always hated about it was how some airports would be on a plateau. Something about the elevation not jiving because of an incline or something like that I dont remember. I had hoped that FSX would look good enough, and I wouldnt have to bother with too many add-ons. I was an add-on junkie with FS9. I would be interested in seeing some screens of airports on, or not on plateaus if its still a problem.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  15. >>But DX10 cards are coming out....WHEN?>>>>A year?? (seriously)>>>>>>Try next month.>lol YOU are pulling my leg! Next month?? I can't believe it to be that soon.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  16. >What tweaks have you done?? Excellent shots. I can't get>shots like that and I am running a core 2 duo 2.13ghz 1gb ram>(i should upgrade that to 2) and geforce 7600gs 256mb ddr2. >Graphics card is weak but I don't want to upgrade yet because>DX10 cards are coming out. Is your graphics card 512 or 256. >Either way it's a nice card. Would love to know your tweaks>and how the graphics were in this same location without>tweaks. But DX10 cards are coming out....WHEN?A year?? (seriously)http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  17. Well the cockpit in the FSX shots look a heck of a lot better. But I am sure there i s a price :-)http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  18. >Hi folks, adding to Reggie's words of wisdom... :-) >>FSX is all about RAM IMHO. System RAM and equally important>GPU-RAM. >>Jaap >>The GeForce 7950 GX2 has 1GB of ram. I thought right away of MSFS when I read that. Seems however tomshardware thought it wouldnt be of much use in games. I would be interested in seeing some numbers.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  19. If you have the opportunity I would really be interested in seeing how the system performs after some of the available tweaks and texture replacements that are available are done. People with less horsepower than your rig are reporting back with successful results.I'm atleast a month away before I begin to order parts for my next rig and all this is very interesting and helpful.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  20. would be nice if the upgrade was just a dx10 card and the OS!http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  21. >Bet you'd get that sense of speed with this:>>In this astonishing photo, a model is wearing a new gadget,>from electronics manufacturer Toshiba, that enables the wearer>to experience a full 360-degree view on a 40 centimetre>dome-shaped screen.>>>OMG I will never go that far in my simulation hobby. LMAO!!By the way Dave, I got checked out in New Haven this past august in a warrior. I used to live there and grew up watching planes at that airport. Always said one day I would fly a real plane there.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  22. Sure, a $700-800 CPU should help a lot! Personally I was leaning towards a Core 2 Duo e6700 for my next build. Did you happen to run that in your tests? Sorry if I missed it on this reply. also...I have seen video cards with 1GB of video ram, I know the GeForce 7950 GX2 has it. I was interested in seeing results of something like that with FSX. I read somewhere that it really wouldnt help much in gaming, but FSX is such a beast of a different nature I shutter to call it just A GAME!http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  23. >you will see quickly that NONE of the current `whizzbang`>technologies are supported by FSX - not dual core, not SLI or>Crossfire, not networked computing, not physics chips, etc. >Dual core is not supported? Forgive my lack of knowledge on this but I thought it was going to give you more horsepower no matter what if it was a dual core AMD/INTEL CPU.>is arund NOW, when Vista and DX10 is just around the corner.>The best card now could be rendered obsolete overnight if FSX,>patched to DX10, performs as claimed. Or it might not.>>>AllcottProblem for some of us is we also like other games, have used the same rig for 3 years (P4 3.2HT, 1GB DDR RAM, 9800XT 256MB), and are itching to build something ASAP. But the teasing of Vista/DX10 not being around, atleast not being around any time soon to wait is a pickle.I think I am just going to build in November and have fun with it no matter what I get. Ofcourse I change this plan almost daily when I think about it.LOL..Maybe now is a good time to see what XPlane looks like.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  24. Boo on me if this has already been mentioned but out of curiosity, all these great screenshots we have seen for FSX, are they DX9 or DX10 shots? I know DX10 isnt out yet but who knows what MS is running behind their scenes.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
  25. >My issue is, I have Most of the CPFlight hardwaare, and a very>big dollar Precision Flight Controls Cirrus 2 setup, If these>items are not upgraded for FSX, I will most likely sell out>and leave this hobby.I would like to see a picture of that setup!http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
