  1. Thanks for your suggestions. Is it best to buy direct or through Steam? Don
  2. I've been simming for many years with FSX and P3D. Getting tired of the window telling me P3D has stopped working. What is the best way to learn X-Plane? You Tube tutorials? Need to know where mouse clicks are and what setups are necessary to get started. Thanks in advance. Don
  3. Thanks guys. I think you have it right. I have been going back and forth between fsuipc and ezdok, trying to find the conflict. Most of my keystrokes were eliminated on the sim. Thanks for your help.
  4. PMDG 737-800, FSX Steam, Windows 10. I find that during a flight, while on Autopilot, if I change views from virtual cockpit to spot view, when I return to the virtual cockpit my Auto throttle has disengaged. This was not a one time occurance, but seems to repeat whenever I change these views. If I just change views within the virtual cockpit (with EZdok) there is no effect on the autothrottle. Anyone have an idea what might be happening? Thanks, Don
  5. I see the water cooler I am looking at for my new build has pre-applied thermal paste. (Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler) Is this ok for good overclocking, or should it be removed and another paste applied? Thanks, Don
  6. Thanks for the good advice guys. I can't find the tridents for sale anywhere. I don't think I will go the extra $150 for the Ti version of the 980 (gotta stop somewhere). Yes it's the k version, but it isn't available anywhere yet either. Yup Ryan, you got me. Retired dentist. I won't be pulling the triger on this build until the cpu is available, so probably have some more time. Thanks for your help. Don
  7. Greetings! I am building a new PC. I have been away from Flight Sim for 3-4 years (pre Steam and pre p3d). My new build will be for FSX Steam, but I also do Photoshop and Video editing. I anticipate using FSX Steam, PDG 737, Orbix, Rex, most all of the goodies. I am guessing my system will be overkill for Flight Sim, but would like confirmation of that. I will be overclocking the CPU. This is my third build of a system. As I only build system every 4 years or so, I am going high end. I respect the contributors on AvSim and hope for some feedback. Thanks guys! This is my current wish list: CPU: Intel i7-6700 MSI Graphics Card GTX 980 gaming 4g ASUS ROG Maximus VIII HERO Motherboard 2 - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5 inch SSD G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 SDRAM EVGA SuperNOVA 850 Watt G2 80+ Gold Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Mid Tower Case Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler Windows 10 Home 64 bit system builder OEM Don Maxwell
  8. I really have searched for this, so sorry in advance for asking what I know is here somewhere, but...I've been away from the sim for a couple months and am now getting back to use the ngx. I previously had the 800/900 installed.I've upgraded to sp1b and added the 600/700. I know I remember that we were to delete panel states, and co routes? yes? no?Don't need to delete liveries anymore though, correct? If I should, in fact, delete old configurations, panel states, rte files....or whatever, could you also tell me where they should be located? And are these all specific for each aircraft type or for ngx in general?Sorry, just can't remember all this stuff. Now I have to remember how to fly the airplane. :)Thanks
  9. Ryan,Why will lowering my settings help when I got this error on the opening fsx screen? I never even got to the settings page. I have run several flights without a problem with my current settings. Other person with no name,Thanks for the suggestions about highmemfix. You can understand my reason for caution in accepting advice from a source with unknown qualifications and not even signing your post. Does anyone else here agree with his suggestion?
  10. Thanks for the suggestions. yes...sp2, but no acceleration yes, although mine is himemfix=1 instead of highmemfix=1I've seen it both ways, and have no idea which one is correct. I built this system with SB specifically because it was designed to be overclocked. My system has been thoroughly tested and is completely stable except with FSX and NGX. Testing with bare bones won't exactly prove much either, as I have had many flights, with my setup exactly like it is now, without any freezes or memory problems. This time there wasn't even a flight!! I'm a little concerned that REX is the culprit eating away all the memory, although on the process chart fsx is almost at 3.5 GB. What I don't understand is why fsx is so high before loading any scenery areas or aircraft? Oh well... I am going to hope that sp1 will be the magic pill to cure all the ills. glad I'm not a programmer. Don
  11. Today I had an out of memory error without even starting a flight. I am contributing it for what it's worth. I have never sent in a problem ticket. After getting several freezes, and out of memory errors, I thought I had my problems licked by eliminating the FPS limiter which I had been using. Several complete flights after starting fsx directly (after Rex 2 of course) without the limiter. Today I started Rex 2, started FSX with EZDok. Then I had some other chores to do and minimized FSX and went online and paid some bills and did some other surfing. An hour or so later I restored the FSX window and got the out of memory error. FSX was still in the opening screen. I had not selected an aircraft (although I have the PMDG 800WL as my default aircraft). The aircraft on the opening screen was a skeleton. I am posting jpgs of the error and my process and cpu usage for your evaluation. I have no clue about diagnosing any of these problems, but maybe those of you more gifted than myself can make some sense of it. You can see my system specs in my sig. Thanks, Don
  12. Ryan,I built my system this year based mostly on your recommendations on the forum. I am having the same issues that others are complaining about here. I don't know how PMDG can assume only a small percentage of people are having problems when you have told us you have enough samples now and not to submit our problems to PMDG. see my post: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/346777-oom-ctd-and-freeze/page__fromsearch__1 Don Maxwell
  13. I've had them all now. I have only had one complete flight, and it was with the generic PMDG 800WL and ezca and no other add-ons. The other flights have had rex 2, or the WN aircraft livery.Am I correct that PMDG does not want any other reports? As you can see from my sig, I don't think it should be my system that caused this (unless related to win 7 64 bit).Actually, though, my CTD was technically only a crash to the FTX opening screen. The flight just froze and the comp went back to the original FTX menu, not the desktop.Moderator please move this post to a different thread if appropriate. Thanks,Don Maxwell ps...I love the aircraft, and am anxiously waiting for these problems to be corrected.
  14. Ryan,Just want you to know I'm very excited to see Tutorial #2. If I understand correctly, it will be a flight from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Innsbruck. You may be aware, or for those that don't know, Just Planes Videos has done a cockpit series of Transavia Airlines featuring 737 700/800/300. One of the flights on this DVD is this very route in a 737-800. This video is very well done, instructional, and this flight features this very unique approach into Innsbruck. I have watched this video many times and can hardly wait to try it myself following your tutorial. The approach features the localizer dme east approach. A gear down, flaps 30 approach from 18 miles out. They break off during the approach and do a visual right hand circuit to land on runway 08. Very awesome! For those interested: www.worldairroutes.comI'm not selling DVD's, I only watch them. Just thought this one might be of special interest to all the new PMDG 737 pilots.Hope I didn't ruin a surprise but rather whetted the appetite of your fans. Thanks,Don Maxwell
  15. Is there a need to upgrade to Acceleration? I have only had sp2 for years. Will we need Acceleration for NGX?Thanks,
  16. Corey,Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't understand how the graphics are shared between the board and your graphics card. Does the monitor need to be connected to the motherboard as well as your card? And if so, how does that work?Don
  17. Thanks Corey,Many good recommendations, and I will check them all out. Is there any reason to be skeptical about a brand new motherboard?
  18. Thanks Ryan,Yeah, the reason I had that cooler master case and power supply was it was a package deal on newegg. I'll check out the other power supplies. What do you think about the new z68 motherboard that is coming out this week?Looks like I better get going on this new build. This new video from PMDG was unbelievable. Very anxious to get my hands on that 737ngx!I appreciate your input.Don
  19. Hey guys,I'm planning to build a new system and would love to hear everyone's 2 cents about the components. I use my system for photoshop and digital photography as well as flight sim.I will be adding SATA drives, HT Omega sound card, and DVD from my old system.New system:ASUS P8P67 Deluxe MotherboardEVGA GTX 570 Video CardIntel Core i7-2600KCorsair H70 CPU CoolerCorsair Vengeance 8GB (2 X 4GB) DDR3 1600 MemoryOCZ Vertex 3 120GB SATA III SSDMicrosoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitCooler Master HAF X 942 Full Tower ATX CaseCooler Master 1000W Power SupplyInterested in thoughts about SSD. It sounds like best use is for operating system (boot drive). Then, budget permiting, a second SSD for FS?Looking forward to comments. Thanks,Don

  21. Ah Ha!With your help I have found the files. Mine is on a different drive, but you pointed me in the right direction to find them.E:\Program Files\Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado Cessna 206Thanks very much for your help.Don
  22. Thanks Tom,the "SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado Cessna 206" folder has only one file: "state.cfg"there are also 2 other folders:SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado Cessna 206 Cargo SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado Cessna 206 Floatboth of these folders are empty...no files. Thanks for the link to the Cessna page. I was hoping to get some sim info though, like mouse click locations etc. Don
  23. Greetings,Just got the download version of the 206. Can't find any pdfs. No documentation at all. Checked in subdirectories as suggested by faq on website.Any help??Thanks,Don
  24. Ron,I have to tell you, I thought you were putting me on there. I had to google Nowthen as I've never heard of it.I lived in Wayzata... not that far away. Been to Elk River many times but not Nowthen. I'm not sure I ever head of Burns either. :)I went to school at Gustavus and was at the U of Mn during the 70's.Can't say I miss the weather. I am still a big Gopher fan though...football and basketball. It's been several tough years saying that.Don
  25. Thanks for the input. I'll check those out.Don
